PHNOM PENH - Jailed Khmer Rouge leader Khieu Samphan was faithful to the regime and was in charge of publishing information for new adherents to the Maoist movement, witnesses told the UN-backed tribunal Wednesday.

Rochem Tun, a former messenger for Pol Pot, told the court that Khieu Samphan had been in charge of propaganda for the movement in the 1960s.

Khieu Samphan, the former head of state for the regime, is on trial alongside Nuon Chea, its chief ideologue, and Ieng Sary, its foreign minister, for atrocity crimes committed by the regime under their leadership.

Rochem Tun, who joined the movement in 1963, told the court Khieu Samphan had been in charge of propaganda for the National United Front of Kampuchea, better known as FUNK. “He had his team, and the FUNK was totally under his responsibility,” Rochem Tun said. “He wrote in Khmer and in foreign languages.”

Rochem Tun described the Front’s strategy to gather intellectuals under the movement, “and after we had collected all the national forces, then there would be some class division.”

Four leaders arrested by the court, including the three on trial and Ieng Thirith, who has been excused from trial because of mental illness, taught Khmer Rouge cadre before the movement camE to power, Rochem Tun said.

In his final day of testimony at the court, David Chandler, a Khmer Rouge scholar and author, told the tribunal that Khieu Samphan had been faithful “but fearful” under the regime of former monarch Norodom Sihanouk, leading him to leave for the countryside with the Khmer Rouge.

Khieu Sapmphan, Hou Nim and Hou Yun,

After my research in Cambodia before Khieu Samphan was arrested by ECCC.

I found as follow ...:

Minority dislike Khieu Samphan. 30%

Majority like, respect and honor Khieu Samphan, Hou Nim and Hou yun for their legal fihgting for social juctice in Khmer society during during Sihanouk regime 1960s.

Majoirty espcially Cambodian elderly believe that Khieu Samphan, Hou Nim and Hou yun never committed corruption that included Khmer people who used to lived along Thai Khmer border during 1980s.

Majority believed Khieu Samphan had no power during 1975-1979 that include former senior Khmer Rouge living along Khmer-Thai border since 1979 till now, they said even Khieu Samphan had no millary skills or military talent as Pol Pot, Ta Mok and Son Sen to led the or not qualify to lead the former Khmer fighters the olny two main reasons that Khieu Smaphan supported Pol Pol's strong policy anti yuon known as Indochina Federatoin to swallow Cambodia and to exterminate ethnic Cambodian wihic is very true, just look the influx of million yuon into Cambodan after 1979, another reason was wheather you hate Pol Pot or not Pol Pol working very hard with and behind Khieu Samphan to have a small or big contribution in 1991 Paris Peace Agreement.

In summari, majority Cambodian regard Khiue Samphan, Hou Nim and Hou Yun as good men:

the men always stood besside the poor Cambodian.

these 3 men always fight for Khmer social justice for the poor .

these 3 men always put their own and their families interests behind natinal interest.

these 3 men really concerned about Indochina Fedeatin to swallow Camnbodia and to exterminate ethnic Cambodan.

There are good men among bad guys.

Not every Khmer rouge is good or bad.

Not every CPP is bad.

Not every Khmer Viet Minh is bad .

Not every members of Sam Rainsy is good or bad.

Not every members of Kim Sokha is bad or good.

So there are good men among bad guys.
