PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — Villagers in northwestern Cambodia unearthed what authorities say could be a mass grave from the Khmer Rouge era that contains skulls and the bones of corpses — some with legs bound by rope.

The morbid discovery was made last weekend about 60 kilometers (40 miles) from Siem Reap, home to Cambodia’s famed Angkor Wat temples.

Authorities said Monday that villagers were excavating land in a forested area when they discovered about 20 skulls and the remnants of skeletons.

Nhim Sela, a Siem Reap military official, said the bones were found at the site of a former Khmer Rouge prison where hundreds were believed killed. Soldiers were assigned to guard the site while authorities discussed whether to dig deeper.

An estimated 1.7 million people were killed during the regime’s 1970s rule.

Those remains must be sent to an expert for exact date
of death to make sure they were not executed after July 5th,
1997 .

During the Khmer Rouge regime I was living about two miles away from that village. I knew Khmer rouge took alot of people from different villages in that area for persecution at Phnom Troung Bat mountain. My cousins, nieces and nephews were included in that event. I thought the local residend should already knew about it after Khmer rouge.

during the stupid, ignorant, primitive KR regime era, millions of people died from their brutal rule! cambodia and khmer people do really want justice for for that era of our dark history. what happened was so imagineable and so very cruel for humans under a primitive, ignorant, stupid KR gov't in cambodia then. it was only matched by the nazi in germany, what happened in cambodia then, you know.

the primitive, ignorant KR regime killed more people than any in the history of human kind, you know. it is ignorant of people to have doubt about that, really.

Maybe we should ask Former Khmer Rouge Soldier about this mass grave.
It is within the area that Former Khmer Rouge Soldier's resident.

Could be a coincidence.
