SAM MEAS ISSUES A CHALLENGE AND A PROMISE

Agree to Term Limits

Haverhill, MA – State Senate Candidate, Sam Meas, issued a challenge to his fellow candidates in the First Essex District today:

Many executive offices across the nation are term-limited. Sadly, the U.S. Congress and own State Legislature are not governed by term limits.

If elected, Meas says he will work to change that for the benefit of the people of this district. “I promise to term-limit myself and encourage others to do the same," Meas said.

“If Massachusetts had a robust 2-party system, the kind of corruption, nepotism, cronyism and massive debt would not happen to the extent that has occurred in recent years.”

During over 60 years of one-party rule, the natural checks and balances built into our state’s Constitution were buried.

“I intend to repay my debt to America by being the kind of Citizen-Legislator our Founders intended. I plan to serve for a few years, then return to private life, run my grocery store and finish raising my family. I do not want to become a 'career politician'.”

Meas promised to serve no longer that four terms (8 years), and issued a challenge to all candidates in the First Essex race to make the same pledge.

When asked why he is choosing eight years as a limit on his tenure, Meas noted, “If it is good enough for the Presidency, then it is good enough for me.”

“I am well aware that this may be difficult for those who come from politically connected families and those who have already grown comfortable drawing government paychecks, benefits, and pensions. That is why it is a challenge to them.”

Meas says that this is in the best interest of the people of the district and our state as a whole. He hopes that other candidates will follow in his footsteps.
