PHNOM PENH - Much of the death and human destruction that took place under the Khmer Rouge was the result of a “chain of accusations,” a witness told the UN-backed tribunal Monday.
Suong Sikheoun, 75, a former deputy of protocol at the foreign ministry said a series of arrests came from one person accusing another, and another, and so on.
“That’s why there was destruction,” he said, testifying in the case against former regime leaders Nuon Chea, Khieu Samphan and Ieng Sary.
Close friends wound up in the notorious torture center of Tuol Sleng, he said.
At one point during his testimony, Suong Sikheoun turned to the three men on trial and apologized.
“It was not socialism, was neither communism nor a revolution to serve the citizens or nation,” he said of the failed regime. “I suffered very much.”

listen to all these insiders and eyewitnesses, etc, ok. they know important information and insight into the psychotic brain of the primitive, stupid, ignorant people that led the KR brutal regime, really. so, listern up and learn the skill of listening for a change, ok! listen before you be gullible, ok! these people probably knew more about the KR than they care to share the information, you know, so be patient and listening up, ok! for me, i always like listening to people who know that they are talking about and who seemed credible and knowledgeable about something so interesting like the brain of the killer KR regime, you know. be patient and smart and wise and enlightened by being patient and sharpen our listening skill, ok! people often ignore the listening skill, so i suggest we all learn to listen well from now on, ok!
To those who had lived during the Khmer Rouge regime.
Concerning the Khmer Rouge era that you are still interested and seem not to forget the past, let focus on the living situation at present day in our country, I don’t where you live now. Can you compare by living in the Khmer Rouge regime and now, which living society is the better sharp? Lets’ start at the present day, we are facing problems such as land grabbing, hit and run, argument, killing each other, rubbing, stabbing, no admiration, no respecting to the law and everyone want to be superior. In Khmer Rouge regime, did you encounter the problems as I mention above? Absolutely not my friend, we had had people work in order for the living, the killing field was another issue, because they were crime against Angka, the starvation, sick are part of life. Do you think now no body get kill, sick like when you were living in Khmer Rouge regime? Thus, there’s not thing new, it is part of life, we all will died someday base on God. I am so sick and tire when I heard the people complaining about Khmer Rouge business.
