Washington, USA — The Tibetan and the Buddhist community are outraged at a California-based company for promoting a range of shoes with the Lord Buddha’s images.
Tibetans and Bhutanese Buddhists have written to the company, Icon Shoes, to express their disgust. They have flooded the company’s Facebook page with protest notes.
“Unfortunately, it is a basic Buddhist tradition to treat images of Buddhist deities with reverence. Having the images on shoes is disrespect to the Buddhists,” wrote Bhuchung Tsering form International Campaign for Tibet.
“Could you kindly consider this and withdraw the shoes from your catalogue,” the Tibetan leader demanded.
The North American member of the Tibetan Parliament, Tashi Namgyal, wrote a protest letter to Icon Shoe.
“I came across shoes with image of Lord Buddha on it, manufactured by your company. I was totally shocked and dismayed at being so insensitive,” wrote Namgyal.
“Lord Buddha is worshiped by millions of people around the world including the writer of this letter… Therefore, I would like to strongly urge your company to recall every merchandise sold with Buddha’s image and stop not only selling such merchandises but manufacture of such products. Above all, I want you to tender unqualified apology posted on your website,” Tashi demanded.
Based out of Palm Desert, California, ICON was launched in 1999 by a Hollywood filmmaker and art collector.
“Icon is for the art lover and the woman who loves shoes and handbags. We support artists by paying royalty for the use of their art,” the company says on its Facebook page.
“I really think you should stop manufacturing the shoes with Buddha’s imprint… it is totally against Buddhist sentiment,” wrote one Tshewant Gyeltshen on the company’s Facebook page.
“I am Buddhist. Your idea of putting Lord Buddha’s image on footwear is unethical,” said one Yoezer Gempo.
“Why do they have to put Lord Buddha’s image on shoes? Among Buddhist we don’t even let our shadow fall on His image. It cannot be ignorance since they had the guts to run a company and even call the pattern ‘Thangka of the Buddha’,” wrote an angry Passang Tshering on his blog.

It's because they have noticed that the Buddhists losing touched with real Buddhism. It may be a satire against the fallen Buddhists this day.
How could you encourage others to do the same to Christ and Muhammad if you don't even know for a fact who are these people? Are they Atheists... or Buddhists themselves?
If you do to Christ in the land of majority 92% Christians like in the US, you get to face either got shot or disappeared by the fanatic majority. If you do that to Muhammad, you call for a "Jihad", the whole Muslim world will crash you.
The best thing is to deal with those behind like a diplomat. Because Buddhists are minority group and disarrayed community. In Japan Buddhism is dying out.
Buddhists in Cambodia are below hell. Buddhists in Thailand are jerks, and Buddhists in Burma are butchers. If we trace back to Buddha's own country, his own people abandoned Him for a long time ago, they are Hindu.
Buddhism needs a reform before it will be disappeared.

No Buddhism is not the oldest religion. You are lying to yourself. Between Hinduism and Buddhism, Hinduism is older than Buddhism. Even Hinduism is not the oldest religion.
For the sake of this earth's age 4-5 Billion years and from a new discovery intelligent machine of 400 million years old in Russia Peninsula recently, and from the discovery of the lost civilization under a giant ocean,
NO human knew for a fact which religion is the oldest. Certainly not Buddhas from those Indian men who sought Nirvana. Any man can seek Nirvana but no man can be Christ.
There are no records found to be truth. Some said there about 10,000 Buddhas but the names of the Buddhas only 29 are listed.
This last Buddha is about 2500 years. Even that the Indians can produce their religion to be the oldest.
The whole world celebrate Christ birth not Buddha, you cannot deny or lie about it even you lied straight from your teeth.
How could Buddhism is the oldest religion if India nation was created after Africa continent splitted (earth shifted)?
Africa includes Egypt and part of Mesopotamia such as Babylon?
How can you claim Buddha is put as a loving peace in the world when the nations adopted his religion are evil butchers? You are lying.
India was created after Africa, so their Hinduism and Buddhism cannot be the first. Judaism was known to be the oldest religion.
Christ is GOD incarnated to human and he performed too many miracle healing the sick and helped the poor from one region to another region. He taught Love & Peace.
If Christ was not resurrected or performed too many miracles those His disciples would had never followed Him. He defeated the Roman empire who ruled the world through love and Peace worked through Paul (Saul) and Peter (Simmon). Saint Peter is stand tall in Vatican today is a proof.

Buddhism is not one of the big leading religions in the world.
The biggest one is Christianity
The second one is Islam
The third one is Hindu.
Furthermore, all Buddhas were Hindu men, so the Hinduism is the father of Buddhism, then Buddhism cannot create its father Hinduism.
Here is Reality if you were to believe it...
Noah had 3 sons--Shem, Ham and Japheth. From these 3 sons of Noah are all the people on this face of the earth descended from. You can find this in Genesis 10.
Noah feared God all the days of his life. His beliefs was in the God of the Bible. I'm not sure about his sons.
What is my point? Prior to this God had just destroyed the earth with a flood. Every living thing that hath breath died except Noah and his 3 sons and their wives and an arkful of animals that were spared. You can read about it in Genesis account starting in Genesis 6.
God was being fair with man by giving him a new start with the sons of Noah, but 4500 years later our beliefs are way off course! Think about it... Our great..............................great grandfather Noah was a God fearing man but his grandchildren are becoming some Buddhists, some Hindu, some Muslims and so on.... Who changed God or man?
Sad history of man kind every man decide his own god of his making and choosing except the right ONE. Because of this we brought on our own cursing and destruction. it happened to Israel and other nations are not exempt. God is not to be mocked!

Don't you want to know why the UN celebrates Buddhism? Because within the UN troops are mostly Indians. India is over populated, so the Indian men prefer to join the UN. The UN does not represent the minority troops who are not Buddhists.
The UN is funded by the US and the West, controlled behind by the US. The UN troops fight like chickens. You know they did not disarm Hun Sen after he was defeated by Rannaridh in the 1st election? Because the US/India want to have a good relationship with Viet Nam, and Viet Nam cannot afford to lose Hun Sen, the man who would give Viet Nam land.
Just because the majority of the Indian men in the UN celebrate Nuddhism it does not mean the other troops from other nations would celebrate along with. The US (Christian) is the master of the UN (Indian Hindu-Buddhists) who knows how play dice.
