Cambodia hopes to win UNSC’s seat as vote approaches

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) — Cambodia highly hopes that it could win a non-permanent seat of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in 2013-2014 tenure in an upcoming vote, a senior government official said Friday.

“We hope to win the seat. So far, over 100 countries out of the UN’s 193 member countries have voiced their supports for us,” Koy Kuong, spokesman for the ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation, told reporters. “However, we will wait and see the result of the vote on Oct. 18 in New York.”

He said that to win a non-permanent seat, a country must gain at least two-thirds of the ballots by the 193 member states.

The spokesman said Cambodia is up against South Korea and Bhutan for the Asian seat.

According to the ministry, all ASEAN member states and France, China, Iran, Brazil, Spain, Mexico, Uruguay, among others, have publicly supported Cambodia for the seat.

Cambodia became as a member of the UN in December, 1955; since then, it has never had any role at the top international body, he added.

Just love all the politicians of all parties of our country Cambodia, who try to do the best for our Khmer Nation.
We are of course still on the transition and we hope one day we will find the good policy for our country and the Khmer people can live in peace will all freedom.

Please remembered, that our great Ancestors needed more than 1000 years to build a great Country with all the perfect heritages for all of us Khmer many generations.
We just therefore walk after their traces, their philosophy and ideology.

if Mr. Kuoy Kuong is right about France publicly supports Cambodia for the seat ,
the French foreign minister is a loonetic who supports a government which
tortures and jail Frenchman ( Sonando) unjustly .

China is doubling down their bet on their second Cambodia man. The last time, Mao and Zhou picked Pol Pot. They also preserve N S to win the minds and hearts of the rural poors because of his poularity, but N S is now very old, and he is not so much relevant to the new generations of the Cambodian poors oftoday.

The Chinese is going with what they perseive as strength and similar style, which is the authoritarian one. The current Cambodian ruling clique fits that profile, although they are more totalitarian than authoritarian.

The US seems to go with convenience and short term results than sticking to the true american ideals.

To 2:58 AM,

I am personally very proud to be Khmer.
Also I am proud of our Khmer Nation. I am, however very ashamed of the Khmer leaders.

I hope and expect after the next July national election, our country will have a good Leader.
