We are deeply concerned by the conviction and harsh sentence of Mam Sonando, a Cambodian independent broadcaster. Today the Phnom Penh Municipal Court sentenced him to 20 years in prison for alleged insurrection. A number of observers in Cambodia have noted that the charges against him appear to have been politically-motivated, based on his frequent criticism of the government.
We strongly support freedom of expression, including the rights of members of the press to peacefully express political views without fear of persecution, retribution, or intimidation, consistent with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We call on the Cambodian government to release Mam Sonando immediately, to ensure that its court system is free from political influence, and to reaffirm its commitment to guaranteeing its citizens’ basic human rights.

During the Vietnam war, your predecessors, at a great costs dealt with Vietnamese dictators.
Likewise, you are now dealing with the Cambodian dictator Hun Sen.
When you meet him this November, would you please set conditions and requirements attached to US financial aids, and the likes.
To go after Aqaida and to create, promote democracy and human rights, the United States sent its armed forces to Iraq and Afghanistan.
To achieve democracy and promote human rights in Cambodia, the US does not need to do that, only give strong messages to Hun Sen.
The Khmer people will always thank you for that.

Madam Secretary of States, Ms. Hillary Clinton and her undersecretaries of States should know that Vietnamese masters in Hanoi who have involved the crisis in Cambodian for more than 3 decades in the dirty political games and played the major roles to destroy Cambodia/Khmer Nation in order to erase the lies of their bad and disgusted Yuon behaviors and ill-intentions to slowly replace Yuon/Vietnamese folks (illegal Vietnamese settlers in Cambodia in every corners) and done the trick in the blind eyes of gullible innocent Khmer/Cambodian people, foreigners and International Communities in the world.
Hun Sen has been living in fear because of his Yuon/Vietnamese masters and now Hun Sen is a very wealthy because of the stolen properties, lands for sales, Yuon/Vietnamese business deals with corrupted CPP clans (Yuon-Khmer, Dumb leaders of CPP) and including Yuon-Chinese mixed thieves like Var Kim Hong, Yeay Phu, Lao Meng, and beyond. How much longer those Yuon thieves under the Hanoi Masters and Hanoi masters will continue to do this until the blames and pressures coming from the UN, EU leaders, the U.S., International Communities and innocent Khmer/Cambodian people.
Time will come to destroy Hanoi Masters before their Yuon Hanoi puppet Hun Sen who will be arrested and put him on trial both at the UN and Cambodian People Courts because of more than 3 decades of losses of international donors' money, assistance, and more.
Yes, Vietnamese masters will return everything that have been stolen from Cambodia and Cambodian/Khmer people to Hanoi or Vietnam to make their country become developed and economically successfully to compete with ASEAN countries and other countries like Japan, S. Korea, China during their control over their Yuon puppet Hun Sen.
Cambodia has everything and is a very rich with natural resources that is why the evil Vietnamese/Yuon masters in Hanoi saw the big opportunities to make big wealth and profit by getting rid of Mr. Penn Sovan (former PM) and installed Yuon Puppet/Slave Hun Sen be illegally unrecognized PM among Cambodian people and the world. What they want from Cambodia are the following:
1. Angkor Wat (Tourists pouring money in)
2. Forests/Trees (giants trees - 500 to more than 1000 years olds)
3. Fish productions
4. Oil and gas
5. Rubber plants
6. Rich soils for plants
7. and beyond.
That is why Cambodia country is not poor because of very rich natural resources comparing to Taiwan, S. Korea, Thailand, Malay, and so on.
Those f**kng Hanoi masters have oversaw things and want to steal everything from Cambodia by having Yuon/Vietnamese slave Hun Sen. You have seen the terrible situations in Cambodia. Yes, uneducated Khmer leaders (no High School diplomas or not done with High School) have been very easily targeted by Hanoi masters including evil Ho Chi Minh in order to brainwash those blind and uneducated Khmer peasants like Hun Sen and others to be manipulated and influenced before hurting his or their own Khmer people.

Having seen your precious message, we all Khmers were so happy in our heart very in deed. And we all would like to say thank you to the Department of state of the United States of America that has taken such an import action to help Cambodian nation as in the second time after the year of 1975s.
In the real world they knew that the current government of Cambodian today wasn't led an independent of state yet, in fact, was a sub served to its mastermind Yiek Cong who’s come from the eastern part of Cambodia.
Typically, this regime today is fully conducting as the tyranny under one man, Hun Sen, ruling the country ever. Since he has committed everything to his boss, especially, all the ugly treaties that he had been signing in 1982,-83-85, and 2005 to lose all the Khmer land and maritime, which all of those things he didn't care his country at all because he cares is only the power just for himself, family and his clans.
And all this matter, as we Khmer were not too happy to see the way he has destroyed our country. So, all we want is to have new government reform which its take a fully a Paris Peace Agreement that the International and U.N. have helped Cambodia to adopt it since October 23, 1991.
Perhaps, you already knew as the government they have been using a court as their power tool to destroying and cracking down Khmer citizens, Activist, Journalist whoever is dared to standing up to fight for their freedom of expression. But all the sudden they said those people had stood up against to his government, instead, they have to solve all the problem to citizen in proper manner and peacefully.
Right now this is the last resort that we all would please U.S. to help Khmer badly by protecting and salvaging Khmer from the expansionist from the Khmer's neighbor and keep pushing the Khmer opposition party of the so-called CNRP( Cambodian National Rescues Party.) Because of this new party we can assure that it would bring a true colors of the democracy back to Khmer national.

Since its invasion in 1979, Vietnam has been using Hun Sen as an effective tool to achieve its goal of swallowing Cambodia.
In effect, Hun Sen will do whatever Vietnam told him to. For example, he implemented the bilateral treaties with Vietnam instead of implementing the 1991 Paris peace accord.
The recent merger of the SRP and the HRP has given Vietnam extreme concern about the prospect that Hun Sen might not be in power after the 2013 election.
Therefore, Vietnam must destroy the essential elements of this new force
Vietnam surely knew that Mam Sonando will join the CNRP. To disrupt this powerful force, Vietnam must “smash” those components; Mam Sonando is one of them.
To resolve this incessant turbulence in Cambodia, the signatory countries of the 1991 Paris peace agreement must enforce it. And it is absurd to say that we cannot enforce it because there was no official request from the government of Cambodia, which is Vietnam’s puppet.
The UN’s rapporteur – Mr. Subedy -latest report about Cambodia should provide enough proof for those signatory countries to intervene and execute such agreement in Cambodia.

I watched PBS last night saw the film "The Halffrom Sky" showed poor nations from Africa, India,...Cambodia, and Vietnam. Cambodia is worse and is the hell on earth. Africa is much better in term of crimes and kidnap for prostitution.
About Ratha Sourn, I don't know and don't understand why some people engaged activities with him? The man can easily travel around the world, without having a job but he can live comfortable.
Don't these people like Lok Mam Sonando who engaged with Ratha Sourn at least THINK WHY?

Why Ratha Sourn does not have to worry about money or worry about job? He has money providing by someone in Cambodia and it has to be Hun Sen.
Just because Ratha Sourn renounced Hun Sen, it does not mean he does not work for Hun Sen. Renouncing Hun Sen and renouncing Yuon from Ratha Sourn's mouth is the way to lure people into his trap.
Lok Sonando fell into his trap, that is why. Lok Mom Sonando built his popularity through his radio, and the people love him.
His popularity is a threat to Yuon/Hun Sen.
Ratha Sourn is working not only for Hun sen but he is working for Yuon, just like Pen Sovann did in the past when he was in Vietnam.
Pen Sovann led Khmers against Yuon after Pol Pot, then so many Khmers were killed in K-5.
Pen Sovann claimed to be nationalist but his record showed only losing Khmer lives to Yuon.
The persecution on Khmer nationalists today such as Mam Sonando was the work of Ratha Sourn, and his record shows now that he brought Mam Sonando to Hun Sen. Ratha Sourn may have a low education but he can lure people to fall into his scheme.
He may be already rewarded by Hun Sen and by Yuon.
Why by Yuon? Because without Hun Sen in power, Yuon will face Khmer nationalists about Paris Peace 1991.

You must be Sourn Serey Rotha. if it it true to what you said then good luck to you but if you are a traitor like others said, well, expect for the worst because all traitors will be in hell, that is a guarentee as 'the wicked will be doomed'. After all, we all are khmers and should never be used to kill each other. If khmer doesn't love khmer, no one in the world will. Therefore, if you have khmer blood in you, you would do anything for our nation. We have to stand up and look around and see, who is interfering with our internal affair? e.g. almost all of our polical leaders are 'EX-KR'. Their aim is to exterminate khmers. So, what can we do? Well, keep on telling the international community that we are not independent and that we are being controlled by other nations and we need total rescue e.g from the EU and UN to help us e.g how they did it to Syria and Iraq etc. Aonther approach is to ask both Viets and Chinese to help us, by allowing to run our country with our way of life and not taking advantage of us and our downfall. Every country needs to be independent with state savereignty and we don't want foreigners' manipulation in the name of helping, because there two kings of help 1) to help to rebuild with an honest way and 2) to help to destroy in a tricky way. E.g if you are to build like roads, housings, university, sewage system, cleaning water for drinking/cooking etc is good but if you are to give financcial support only to benefit the corrupt officials then you are helping to kill innocent khmers and also to help them gain more power which mean you are helping to create more evils and therefore, you are as good as a devil itself.
Mr. Mam Sonando stand up for Cambodian people. Let stand up for him and support him. Please call the the senators in your states and ask them to support. The government MUST release him unconditional.
