Hun Sen Says He Hopes ‘No Problems’ Arise During Obama Visit

PHNOM PENH - Cambodians living near the airport have begun hanging photographs of US President Barack Obama on the rooftops of their homes, in anticipation of the US leader’s arrival here for a series of meetings next week.

Obama will attend East Asia and US-Asean summits here on Monday and Tuesday, on the first visit of a US president to modern Cambodia. He will be joined by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.

The visit has meant increased scrutiny of Cambodia’s flagging human rights efforts, with outside groups calling for Obama to use his visit to push for more reforms.

In a public speech Wednesday, Prime Minister Hun Sen said he hoped there would be “no problems” during the US president’s visit.

Land rights activists have been warned not to protest during Obama’s visit, but representatives of communities that have been forcibly evicted from land in the cities and countryside say they are planning a massive demonstration in front of the US Embassy.

Hun Sen is expected to have high-level bilateral talks with Obama and the delegation, but it is unclear whether those will include discussions on Cambodia’s slipping rights efforts. A dozen US lawmakers have called on Obama to use his visit to push for reforms, with land grabs, corrupt courts and the exile of opposition leader Sam Rainsy at the top of their list.

Human Rights Watch, meanwhile, issued a scathing report on the regime of Hun Sen this week, claiming that members of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party have consistently seen promotions, despite their links to extrajudicial killings and other grave abuses. The group blamed Hun Sen’s “violent and authoritarian rule” for supporting “countless killings and other serious abuses that have gone unpunished.”

“Instead of prosecuting officials responsible for killings and other serious abuses, Prime Minister Hun Sen has promoted and rewarded them,” Brad Adams, who heads the Asia program for Human Rights Watch, said in a statement. “The message to Cambodians is that even well-known killers are above the law if they have protection from the country’s political and military leaders. Donor governments, instead of pressing for accountability, have adopted a business-as-usual approach.”

Human Rights Watch called on Obama to use his visit to “publicly demand systematic reforms and an end to impunity for abusive officials.”

Uncle Ho likes to let's you all know that because you are all not the best interest of America economic but Samdach Decho Hun Sen will fully cooperative with America in term of Crude oil. Ceveron Company of America is very closely get the crude oil and Samdach decho Hun Sen gives full agreement to Ceveron Company to take the oil for 99 years contraction so if you are President Obama what will you do best for America as well as Americans? Should President Obama turns away trillions dollars of crude oil benefit to American Nation, just because of you people?

Sam Rainsy: Hero or Coward
Sam Rainsy please show the world your courage and be inspired by Cambodian peoples. Don't be a weakling, coward stay in France afraid being arrest and imprison in Cambodia. Think of Gandhi and Mandela they have the courage to fight for suffer for their people, spending many year in prison. Now, the world is watching, show the world, the world leaders of your conviction and courage. Be a hero and force Hun Sen to arrest and imprison you in front of President Obama and ASEAN leaders. Go to Cambodia now and let the government arrest you, if you are afraid of being arrest and imprison. Please stay in France enjoy the easy life and step down as an opposition leader. Let someone else lead that has the courage and willing to sacrifice for his people and his country. A leader can not be a coward. A leader must be a hero to his followers. This one thing u can learn from Hun Sen.

Asshole,

People are so sick with this kind of suggestion.

You got to know that Cambodia is controlled by Vietnam and it will do anything to kill Sam Rainsy.

Once Sam Rainsy is incarcerated, this evil nation Vietnam will find ways to kill him for example by poisoning him, staging fighting amongst inmates and kill him, etc...

How about you cut your own penis to show to the world that you are brave, and grinding your penis in the garbage disposal to prove that you are not selfish.

Can you make this deal? If you can, then Sam Rainsy will go to Cambodia to let Ah Kantorb kill him.

Don't be a coward, big mouth talker !! Make this deal !!

Sam Rainsy, the main opposition leader in Cambodia, is a HERO or Coward? He afraid to enter Cambodia afraid of arrest or imprison. He stay in France meekly asking Hun Sen, his opponent, to pardon him before he return to Cambodia. Sam Rainsy please a hero think of Gandhi Mandela, Ah Su Chi. .There will be a tremendous amount of political and popular gain to be obtained by Mr. Sam Rainsy if he were to take the advice of 12:04 AM above by returning to Cambodia to face the jail sentence during the Asian Summit in Phnom Penh.

His political plight will be in broad daylight and his courage would earn him more respect and, of course, votes and trust among the electorate. Without a doubt his arrival in Phnom Penh unexpectedly at this time would put Hun Sen in a clumsy and precarious position of deciding what to do with Sam Rainsy.

More likely than not Hun Sen will arrest him despite strong objection from western leaders, but the negative pressure created on Hun Sen and his government by the imprisonment of Sam Rainsy will have far reaching and more serious consequences for Phnom Penh than the inconvenience of Mr. Sam living in Prey Sar jail.

It is certainly a suggestion to be considered seriously if one wants to play Cambodian politics which are usually dirty and can be deadly.

Well, you can't be a cook if you are not willing to be dirty and get burned every now and then.
Those people who used profanity and racial epitaph maybe Vietnamese or Hun Sen spies to discrete the opposition.
