PHNOM PENH - Defense lawyers for jailed Khmer Rouge leaders Nuon Chea and Ieng Sary say both are in declining health in detention, making it hard for them to participate in an atrocity crimes trial currently underway.
The UN-backed tribunal has scheduled hearings in March to determine their fitness and whether they can continue to take part in the trial, renewing fears that the few Khmer Rouge leaders under indictment at the court will not see justice. The court has already determined that Ieng Sary’s wife, Ieng Thirith, was not fit to stand trial, putting her under indefinite house arrest.
The tribunal will hear health arguments for Ieng Sary, who is 87 and was the Khmer Rouge’s foreign minister, on March 21 and for Nuon Chea, who is 86 and was the regime’s chief ideologue, the following day. Tribunal spokesman Neth Pheaktra said the Trial Chamber of the court will appoint three medical experts to assess them prior to the hearings, which are being conducted at the request of the defense.
“Over the last few weeks, he has been too weak,” Nuon Chea’s lawyer, Son Arun, told VOA Khmer Thursday. In hearings, Nuon Chea cannot sit down, and he has pains in his waist. “He cannot walk and his legs shake when he sleeps, and he cannot remember [details],” Son Arun said.
Ang Udom, lawyer for Ieng Sary, said his client can understand what is happening around him, “but he cannot recall it later on.”
Both men are on trial for atrocity crimes, including genocide, alongside the regime’s nominal head of state, Khieu Samphan. Khmer Rouge survivors say they are afraid the suspects are trying to escape justice, and at the same time they fear that the slow pace of the court and the age of the defendants will lead to a failure of this case, only the court’s second.

Khmer was never ever killing Khmer. Some of Khmer Rough leaders are not Khmer, all of them was descendant from China, Vietnam such as Noun Chea, Eang Sary, Kiev Sam Phorn, Pol pot, Duch (please read their biography).

No one want the murderer to be set free but we want the true, so we want the court to be independent without political interference, the current government try to do everything possible to prevent the court from find out the true, they stalk defendant, preventing international judge to find out more evident; the government gave verdict to Noun Chea of guilty in Vietnam etc.
The current government afraid of find out the true because 90% of their cabinet had bloody hand and involved with killing field; one person cannot do anything without supporters so Pol Pot had supporters and those supporters like Hun Sen, Heng Samrin, Chea Sim, Kiet Chhun, Cham Prasith etc. Must be accountable for killing field.
Reason we have suspicion of Vietnamese agent because of:
1. Vietnamese killed Khmer because our history have shown us the Vietnamese are all ways desire on Cambodia
2. Khmer and Charm live together side by side for century never have any problem but the killing field killed Charm too because Vietnamese plan to eliminate Charm in order to prevent Charm from claiming Champa back.
3. They Killed Chinese in Cambodia because Vietnamese consider Chinese was Vietnamese traditional enemy and for their security Vietnamese must eliminate ethnic Chinese.
4. They killed their own Vietnamese in Cambodia because they consider all Vietnamese in Cambodia was from South Vietnam who supported US.
5. They killed ethnic minority in Cambodia because prevented these ethnic unite with ethic in Vietnam against Vietnamese for independent.
6. They killed Khmer Krom because they prevent Khmer Claim Kampuchea Krom that they illegally occupy.

Who orders and who took the order to kill Khmer? The answer both are Vietnamese, Pot Pot was ethic Chinese and trained by the Vietnamese if Pol Pot orders to kill one person but Vietnamese agent manipulated by kill 100 persons. You are still not get it, all Khmer Leaders are not Khmer (read their biography} all of them are descendant from Chinese and Vietnamese.

Hi my dear beloved father, I am 7:23PM, 6:32AM, 3:12PM and I am not from Stockton, I am living near Khmer Rough court Phnom Penh. I did not know what America look like, I attanded Khmer Rough almost every trail because I would like the find out what was happen during Khmer Rough I see the victims came to hear the trial but the trial still not convince me that the Khmer leader solely responsible for 2 million dead. I am Khmer who experienced as ordinary Khmer.
Please do not criticise Mr Stockton, he or she was innocent.
