On the campaign trail : Tmol kaul, Battambang – 22 February, 2013
“What is the cost of delivery?”, I asked a 9-month pregnant young mother.
A cry from the more than 100 people, 90% women who came to listen to my speech: “$25 and that does not include transportation and medicine and the bed”. It is the same answer I hear everywhere.
I told the stories of women who died because their families could not pay the hospital fees and just two weeks ago of a very poor woman who was denied medical care and delivered her baby on the railroad track.
The women started crying and putting their heads down of anger and despair.
It takes more than firing the medical staff and more than appealing for medical staff to have ethics.
It takes women in the entire village to demand accountability from politicians, from political parties.
“Free health care for pregnant women is not just the right thing to do. It is about human rights. It is about women’s lives. We need to dry our tears and vote for change.”

MUA Soc HUA is a good , right candidate to challenge Hun Sen . Hospitals in
Cambodia have been revived by International donation . They belong to all
Cambodians - not just for CPP . Cambodian Hospitals & government offices have
became the bargain places for corrupt officials . Last week I bought a rice paddy
field from a poor farmer ( 500 m2 ) for $500 ( five hundred US $ ) ; it was a deal
which the seller has to pay tax and title transfer fee . The poor lady was ordered
to pay $500 for service , she was crying ; then the fee came down to $ 300 .
She had to pay three hundred dollars with no receipt . I got an audio record though,
just in case they don't deliver the service . Wata Country !
If they are so poor and cannot effort to pay the hospital, the government will step in and pickup whatever amount charged by the hospital.
