PHNOM PENH, Cambodia - A Cambodian appeals court has overturned the widely criticized conviction of a prominent government critic who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for an alleged secessionist plot.
A judge ruled Thursday there was no evidence to support the lower court's findings and dismissed the charges against 71-year-old radio station owner Mam Sonando.
Hundreds of people outside the courthouse cheered the decision. Sonando is expected to be freed later this week.
Mam Sonando's Beehive Radio is one of Cambodia's few radio stations broadcasting criticism of Prime Minister Hun Sen's government.
He was convicted in October on four insurrection and rebellion counts for alleged links to a secessionist movement in eastern Cambodia. He denied any involvement and human groups had criticized the hearing as "farcical" and politically motivated.

It was not the Court that decided, it was Hun Sen.
Hun Sen is the Cambodia Courts's OWNER !!!
This shows Hun Sen that is becoming day by day weak and he can't do something against Khmer nationalists and its people. The Khmer spirit is been presently with Khmers soul against who (as traitor) rules the country in the criminal way.
Make no mistake that whenever people talking about prison, it makes fugitive Sam Rainsy sleepless at night, let alone ever expected that he will dare to return and goes to jail in Cambodia. His father (Sam Sary) had advised him that if there is a problem in Cambodia, just run and run fast like daddy. Then, you will be free because we were born as elite family will not able to cope the condition in prison at all. Prison is just for ordinary people to stay.
