Appealing for calm months before the national elections, Prime Minister Hun Sen yesterday directed members of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party to distance themselves from heated political attacks launched during the campaign season.
Speaking to thousands of villagers and new youth members of the party during a groundbreaking ceremony for a pagoda in the Tbong Khmum district of Kampong Cham province, Hun Sen said members should avoid responding angrily to criticism of the CPP, as responding in such a manner could adversely affect the view of the party in the minds of voters.
“I would like to send a message to all party members, that now there is a campaign to defame, discredit and insult by the other political parties, and the heat increases from day to day, but we need not verbally counterattack and provoke an argument,” he said.
Though the premier did not specifically call out any group by name, the message seemed tailor-made for the opposition Cambodian National Rescue Party, the only political force muscular enough to bump heads with the CPP in the July 28 national elections.
Yim Sovann, spokesman for the CNRP, said that “when the ruling CPP has a strong reaction to our political message, such as the promise to increase salaries for the armed forces and civil servants, it means that the CPP fails to resolve the problem.”
According to Hun Sen, there were a whopping 50 political parties registered with the Ministry of Interior in the run-up to the election.
He also said he was “proud” of being involved in the fighting against the Khmer Rouge, and that in the upcoming election, it’s important to elect someone – presumably meaning himself – who can “hold the steering wheel of the country.”
Discounting verbal attacks, Koul Panha, executive director of local election monitor the Committee for Free and Fair Elections in Cambodia, said he had not seen a single report of politically motivated violence ahead of the elections thus far.

The reason for silent complicity by US and UN is because the land Hun Sen steals goes directly to foreign corporations, including those in both neighboring Southeast Asian nations, as well as the United States, United Kingdom, and Europe.
នាយក ទឹកត្រី...យួន !
Outsiders love to see Hun Sen win the election, instead, why? because it will be easier for them to continue to manipulate to get whatever they wanted, e,g. land concessions, continueing to encroach on both sides between the east and the west. Please, you need to let go off your power and let others have ago. The ones with quality skills, where no one can manipulate them.
Remember this, outsiders are able to print more money to fool all of us e.g buying our hard earned produce such as rice, dry fish etc (known as the legal thieves-gov't) . The whole world knows this fact and was willing to use gold as their commodity, rather than the 'dollars', why? because no one can print gold, simple as that, and so, the dollar will be collapsed. But, the US did want to risk this and so, look at what they did to the middle east now... they believed in 'destroy them before they destroy us', but God knows every move they make, so time will tell. Because god loves what is right and just.
Able to print more money means able to steal since there is no watch dog to control or balance GDP...In this sense, we need someone with skills to articulate the overall position in economic development from internal and external approaches. Hun Sen alone can not do this, so, if possible please call upon all political leaders of both sides to work together as a team, that is, even Hun Sen loses the election, he will still be important to us.
We need to conform, the more educated/experienced people we have, the better for our society. Hun Sen on the other hand, needs to pave a way for others to have ago for the image of our nation and also, he needs to acknowledge that 30 years in power is enough, everything needs change e.g like changing clothe on a daily basis or eles it will get stink, water flow keeps on moving for good outcome (cleansing), old car needs to be updated etc. So, change is good but not without a peaceful 'coexistence' agreement.
So, it is time to let go PM and it is time to pass on your skills to the new comers for the benefit of our nation. It is time for peace, not war because enough is enough. This time be fair and be honest to yourself and to others. Please try to listen to our people's voice and not outsiders no more. Because again outsiders never want what is best for us but the opposite. They would rather see us fighting one another instead of conformity. They made fun of us for years and now, it is time to stop.
Because khmers did not kill khmers. It was the work of the outsiders alone, it is known as 'killing two birds with one stone' and in the end, they are the ones who benefit from our downfall just as their planned. On top of that, they did not lose a dollar on war. Please wake up everyone!
