CIVICUS Cambodia Stands United with the Cambodian Workers, Prayers for the Victims and their Families

CIVICUS Cambodia Stands United with the Cambodian Workers, Prayers for the Victims and their Families

On 16 May 2013, a shoe factory in Cambodia collapsed and killed at least 2 workers, injuring many others in a province bordering Phnom Penh.

Our hearts and prayers are with the families of the dead, the wounded and other factory workers who are daily working in perilous conditions at these factories whose owners are more concerned about profit than lives.

We call on the Cambodian government and the companies to take all necessary steps in order than this tragedy does not repeat itself.  We ask the government to conduct a thorough investigation into the collapse and seek justice for the victims.

It is unfortunate that what we all had been fearing in Bangladesh came true, that it was only a matter of time before a similar tragedy unfolds in Cambodia.

We stand united with all the Cambodian workers and offer our deepest condolences to the victims and their families in the Wing Star Factory tragedy.
