BBG Condemns Foreign Media Ban in Cambodia

BBG Condemns Foreign Media Ban in Cambodia

The Broadcasting Board of Governors has condemned a directive issued by the Cambodian government that forbids the broadcasting of all foreign programming for 31 days prior to the July 28 election. The directive affects all FM radio stations broadcasting Radio Free Asia and Voice of America programming.

“I am extremely troubled by the Cambodian government’s actions today,” said Victor Ashe, a member of the BBG’s governing board and the vice chairman of the board overseeing RFA and who served as the U.S. Ambassador to Poland from 2004-2009.  “By denying its citizens access to unbiased news and information in this critical time it is undermining its own legitimacy and blatantly repudiating the very democracy it claims to espouse.  When I visited Cambodia in May, I met with leaders in the media and civil society.  I know first-hand how much they rely on the reporting of RFA and VOA.”

Radio Free Asia reports that at least 10 FM stations in Cambodia have dropped programming as a result, and e-mails from listeners are already starting to pour in. VOA’s Khmer Service says the government’s decision to pull VOA radio programs from FM stations has sparked immediate complaints on Facebook and other social media sites. Both broadcasters have issued statements condemning the ban.

Radio Free Asia will continue to provide programming through its websites and social media platforms as well as on shortwave radio. VOA will continue providing news and information broadcasts on direct-to-home satellite, web streaming and shortwave and AM radio broadcasts from outside Cambodia.  Because of the Cambodian government’s action, both broadcasters are now considering adding shortwave frequencies.

In a statement today, the U.S. State Department urged the Royal Government of Cambodia to reconsider the decision. “This directive is a serious infringement on freedom of the press and freedom of expression, and starkly contradicts the spirit of a healthy democratic process,” said State Department spokesman Patrick Ventrell.

Hun Sen is being used by outsiders known as, the ‘VC, the Chinese and the CPP traitor crooks’. Hun Sen admitted that he is a puppet of the outsiders as described ‘I am VC’s puppet, if you want me to speak truth, this is the truth’, and so, it takes courage for him to speak truth. Now, that we already know this truth, it is time for us to help him, to get him out of such a gangster group. So, from here, it is up to Hen Sen to decide either to join with the CNRP or continuing to let the crooks borrow your hands to continue to ruin us khmers for them.

Hun Sen, you must know this, they’d done it before and they will continue do it again and again. E.g they created Pol Pot to fight against Lon Nol/Sirik Matak and created Chea Sim, Heng Sarin and Hun Sen to fight against Pol Pot, and Now, they want you to fight against your own people, e,g just like the K5 plan as well as making you to agree on ‘land concession’ and also for them to have ‘ownership’ of ‘Angkor Wat for 99 years’, guess what? 99 years later, it will be finished; it will be another Khmer Krom, for sure.

While you enjoy your power and privileges, people are dying and screaming for help, because they are being oppressed by your power without knowing that, you are being used by them crooks. Just look at our people now, they can’t even afford to buy one whole chicken from a day income work. Where as in the west, we could buy between 16-20 of them from a day income work e,g each Chicken cost $10, income per day is up to $160-$200 after tax. What does this tell you? Basically, our people are being starved to death. It is called the ‘silent killer’, that is, no different from the 'KR' regime, really.

So, please wake up Hun sen, let go of your power now before it is too late. Because, our nation is at risks of losing everything. Right now, your behaviour is so bad and it is very bad. We khmers are a shame to have you as our leader, can’t you get it? Right now, outsiders treat us like, we are the low class kind of people or primitive people because of you. We need someone who is able to lead us and give us some pride just like every other nation does. It is very painful feeling really.
The VC, Chinese and the CPP traitor crooks had killed 3 million of our educated ones and then, they went on to say that, ‘khmers are dumb, stupid and lazy’, while at the same time, they continue to rob ( deforestation, land concession, land grabbing) steal (from us khmers, from our hard earned rice and fish) and kill (Chut Vuthy, Chea Vichea, Pisit Pilica) etc. Despite the rule of law, 'they shall not lie, cheat, steal and kill', but these crooks did and that, 'the righteous will live forever and the wicked will be doomed' and so, who is the dumb one here?
