Cambodia unveils strategy to attract Chinese tourists

PHNOM PENH, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's Ministry of Tourism on Wednesday finalized its 5-year strategic plan to attract at least 1.3 million Chinese visitors by 2018.
Speaking at a seminar on Cambodia tourism marketing strategy targeting China, So Visothy, director of the Tourism Ministry's Marketing and Promotion Department, said that currently China is the third largest tourist arrival group to Cambodia.
The country greeted 333,890 Chinese visitors in 2012, up 35 percent year-on-year, and during the first four months of this year, some 174,150 Chinese visited Cambodia, up 55 percent compared with the same period last year.
"We see China as a huge market for Cambodian tourism," he said. "Under the strategy, we target 600,000 Chinese tourists in 2015 and 1.3 million in 2018."
To reach the goal, Cambodia would continue broadening promotion of Cambodian tourism destinations to China and encouraging more direct flight connection between the two countries, he said.
According to the strategic plan, the country would prepare entry-exit application forms and announcements at airports in Chinese language, write signs on main roads in Chinese language, study to establish China Town and train more Chinese speaking tour guides.
Tourism Minister Thong Khon said at the seminar that it was important to encourage owners of hotels, restaurants and tourism resorts to use three languages--Khmer, English and Chinese--on billboards, or promotional leaflets or brochures.
"Chinese are rich now, more and more Chinese visit abroad," he said. "Cambodia and China have had very good diplomatic tie. With this good tie, it will be easy for us to attract more Chinese to Cambodia."
At the seminar, there was also a presentation about trends and hobbies of Chinese tourists by Dr. Li Chuangxin, representative of ASEAN-China Center and professor of International Tourism Research Institute of China Tourism Academy.
Tourism is one of the major sectors supporting Cambodian economy. Last year, the country received 3.58 million foreign tourists, up 24 percent year-on-year, and generated total revenue of about 2.2 billion U.S. dollars, or 12 percent of the GDP, said the ministry of tourism.
The country is the destination for ecological and cultural tourism, and it is well-known for its 12th century Angkor Wat Temple, a world heritage site, and the 11th century Preah Vihear Temple, another world heritage site.
Besides, it has a pristine coastline stretching in the length of 450 kilometers in four provinces of Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot and Kep. The coastline was recognized as one of the World' s Most Beautiful Bays in May, 2011.

They killed 3 millions of our educated ones and then, they went on to say, 'khmers are racists, dumb, stupid and lazy', while they continue to rob (from our hard earned produce such rice and fish), steal (deforestation, land concession, national land for sale to fill in their pockets) and kill (activists, journalists like Chut vuty, Chea Vichea, Pisit Pilica, Touch srey nich and pov pahna pich) us khmers, despite god's law 'they shall not kill and steal' and so, who is the stupid ones here?
Hun Sen is going to go through the same fate as Kingta, Pol Pot, Hawk Lundi and so on. They have done this before and they will do it again and again. They took Laos, Champa, prey Nokor (Saigon), Khmer Krom, Koh Tral and now, the whole srok Khmer. They are very viscious kind of people, they have no moral. Their evil tactics and tricks are plentiful. They made khmers killed khmers or killing two birds with one stone e,g they created Pol pot to fight against Lon Nol and then, they created Chea Sim, Heng Sarin and Hun Sen to fight against Pol Pot and now, they try to make Hun Sen to fight against his own people. Their evil deed will never end, and so, we need NATO to come in to intervene, to rescue us khmers from such crooked people.
During KR era, Chinese sold certain amount of war related weapons to Pol Pot in exchange from khmers hard earned produces such as rice and fish, while khmers had to go through coping with war, over worked and starved to death. In the end, those weapons falled into VC's hands, then, used to help in the killing of khmers Lon Nol, plus with the helped of the US-B52 bombing made it possible for the whole khmer empire to go down.
The truth is, khmers never wanted war, it was the work of the outsiders alone. Their aim of destroying the little nation is endless. So, from here, what are we going to do about it? The truth is only god almighty can help us, because the truth will always be the truth and the truth will set us free. That khmers are kind, gentle with open hearted, but because of our kindness, they took advantage of us and our downfall. Nevertheless, god said 'the righteous will live forever and the wicked will be doomed...justice will be done on earth and in heaven',
Therefore, at least we still have hope, faith and love, in all of us khmers, because god is right and just. So, for the crooked ones, your time is limitted, you can run but you can't hide. Because in the end, the good will always be prevailed, Amen!

Stupid idea and may lead to national disaster. Only Cambodia corrupted regime think crazy, promote crazy. When you create this Chinatown then you will never ever get rid off it. Cambodia will never ever has Cambodian Town in China in anyway.
In Vietnam they try to promote their nationality and promote nothing to the Chinese (no Chinatown in Vietnam and encourage ethnic Chinese to leave the country).
When Chinatown is created, the crime will concentrate in that area it mean where there is Chinatown there are always crime there, Chinatown is breeding ground of the crime, drug trafficker...etc. Chinatown will never ever promote tourist, tourists are away afraid of and avoid Chinatown, it has narrow street, overcrowded, gambling, and there are a lot of secret places is hardly reach by tourists.
Tourists they want to see our national heritage, Khmer identity, Khmer living, Khmer traditional, every that is Khmer. Chinese tourists did not want to see Chinatown because they have thousands of Chinatown in China.
Create something is unique Khmer like create pure Khmer traditional house villages to attract tourists.
I totally disagree to this stupid idea and I am strongly objected to this plan and I condemn it if Chinatown is created any where in Cambodia. China and corrupted Cambodian regime should not take advantages on disadvantages Cambodia and her people
