Russian businessman Sergei Polonsky, who was indicted in absentia for corruption in Russia last week, has arrived in Cambodia, where he is also facing legal action.

Polonsky's lawyer said on August 19 that his client arrived in Cambodia on August 17 from Israel and planned to stay there for a few months.

Polonsky and two associates were arrested in Cambodia last year after local sailors claimed the Russian property developer had beaten them.

Polonsky spent three months in Cambodia in detention and later fled to Israel, where he applied for citizenship.

He reportedly left Israel for fear he could be extradited to Russia to face embezzlement charges.

Polonsky is notorious for his eccentric statements and actions in recent years. In 2011, he made headlines after prominent media magnate Aleksandr Lebedev punched him during a television program.
