Teachings from Kompi Ved
1. Bear in mind, my fellow brothers and sisters, that only cowards and those who are weak commit sin and tell lies. The brave are always moral. Try to be moral, try to be brave, and try to be sympathizing.
2. Out of the past is built the future. Look back, therefore, as far as you can, drink deep of the eternal fountains that are behind, and after that, look forward, march forward and make Cambodia brighter, greater, much higher than she ever was. Our ancestors were great. We must first recall that. We must learn the elements of our being, the blood that courses in our veins; we must have faith in that blood and what it did in the past; and out of that faith and consciousness of past greatness, we must build an Cambodia yet greater than what she has been.
3. All the wealth in the world cannot help one little Cambodian village if the people are not taught to help themselves. Our work should be mainly educational, both moral and intellectual.
4. "Wake up, stop not until the goal is reached", say the Vedas. Up, up, the long night is passing, the day is approaching, the wave has risen, and nothing will be able to resist its tidal fury. The spirit, my fellow brothers and sisters, the spirit; the love, the love; the faith, the belief; and fear not! The greatest sin is fear.
5. Do not be afraid of a small beginning, great things come afterwards. Be courageous. Do not try to lead your people, but serve them. The brutal mania for leading has sunk many a great ship in the waters of life. Take care especially of that, i.e. be unselfish even unto death, and work.
6. Have faith that you are all, my brave fellow brothers and sisters born to do great things! Let not the barks of puppies frighten you -- no, not even the thunderbolts of heaven -- but stand up and work!
7. I do not believe in a God or religion which cannot wipe the widow's tears or bring a piece of bread to the orphan's mouth. However sublime be the theories, however well - spun may be the philosophy -- I do not call it religion so long as it is confined to books and dogmas. The eye is in the forehead and not in the back. Move onward and carry into practice that which you are very proud to call your religion, and God bless you!
8. Love never fails, my fellow brothers and sisters; today or tomorrow or ages after, truth will conquer. Love shall win the victory. Do you love your fellow men? Where should you go to seek for God -- are not all the poor, the miserable, the weak, Gods? Why not worship them first? Why go to dig a well on the shores of the Mekong? Believe in the omnipotent power of love. Who cares for these tinsel puffs of name? I never keep watch of what the newspapers are saying. Have you love? --- you are omnipotent. Are you perfectly unselfish? If so, you are irresistible. It is character that pays everywhere. It is the Lord who protects His fellow brothers and sisters in the depths of the sea. Your country requires heroes; be heroes! God bless you!
9. Look upon every man, woman, and every one as God. You cannot help anyone, you can only serve: serve the fellow brothers and sisters of the Lord, serve the Lord Himself, if you have the privilege. If the Lord grants that you can help any one of his fellow brothers and sisters, blessed you are; do not think too much of yourselves. Blessed you are that that privilege was given to you when others had not. Do it only as worship. I should see God in the poor, and it is for my salvation that I go and worship them. The poor and the miserable are for our salvation, so that we may serve the Lord, coming in the shape of the diseased, coming in the shape of the lunatic, and the sinner!

Kompi Ved

41. It is life to do good, it is death not to do good to others. Ninety per cent of human brutes you see are dead, are ghosts -- for none lives, my boys, but he who loves.
42. Feel, my fellow brothers and sisters, feel; feel for the poor, the ignorant, the downtrodden; feel till the heart stops and the brain reels and you think you will go mad -- then pour the soul out at the feet of the Lord, and then will come power, help, and indomitable energy.
43. Money does not pay, nor name; fame does not pay, nor learning. It is love that pays; it is character that cleaves its way through adamantine walls of difficulties.
44. You must give your body, mind, and speech to "the welfare of the world". You have read --" look upon your mother as God, look upon your father as God"-- but I say " the poor, the illiterate, the ignorant, the afflicted -- let these be your God." Know that service to these alone is the highest religion.
45. Each nation has a main current in life; in Cambodia it is religion. Make it strong and the waters on either side must move along with it.
46. In religion lies the vitality of Cambodia, and so long as the Khmer people do not forget the great inheritance of their forefathers, there is no power on earth to destroy them.
47. Another truth I have realized is that altruistic service only is religion, the rest, such as ceremonial observances, are madness -- even it is wrong to hanker after one's own salvation. Liberation is only for him who gives up everything for others, whereas others who tax their brains day and night harping on "my salvation", "my salvation", wander about with their true well - being ruined, both present and prospective; and this I have seen many a time with my own eyes.
48. My ideal indeed can be put into a few words and that is: to preach unto mankind their divinity, and how to make it manifest in every movement of life.
49. That you may catch my fire, that you may be intensely sincere, that you may die the heroes' death on the field of battle -- is the constant prayer of Angkorian people.
50. Work unto death -- I am with you, and when I am gone, my spirit will work with you.
51. It may be that I shall find it good to get outside of my body -- to cast it off like a disused garment. But I shall not cease to work! I shall inspire men everywhere, until the world shall know that it is one with the Supreme Being.
