CNRP STATEMENT ON PEOPLE’S RIGHT TO FREEDOM OF PEACEFUL ASSEMBLY

1. The CNRP most strongly condemns and completely rejects last night's blatant and totally unreasonable violation of the Cambodian people's right to freedom of peaceful assembly.

2. The CNRP reaffirms its determination to uphold and promote this right strictly in adherence with international standards and best practices, as laid out in the domestic and international civil society statement of 5 September 2013.
3. It calls on the Cambodian people similarly to fully abide by these standards and best practices in their exercise of their right to freedom of peaceful assembly. 

4. The CNRP also calls on all Cambodian security forces and other competent authorities to act only in a manner that respects and defends this right of the Cambodian people and which is consistent with these standards and best practices.

5. It appeals to all ambassadors, heads of UN agencies and other representatives of the international community in Cambodia to urgently insist that the security forces and competent authorities do so.
