Cambodia's long-ruling Prime Minister Hun Sen briefly met the head of
the main opposition party for the first time in years Saturday, but the
two rivals reached no agreement on how to end the political stalemate
that has simmered since the country's disputed election.
The opposition says it would have won had the vote been fair and has
vowed to stage a new wave of protests Sunday and boycott parliament's
first session Sept. 23 unless an independent committee investigates its
claims of widespread voting irregularities. The government has rejected
the demands.
Saturday's meeting between Hun Sen and opposition leader Sam Rainsy was
called by King Norodom Sihamoni, and was held at the Royal Palace in the
capital, Phnom Penh. The talks lasted about 20 minutes, and Hun Sen
left without commenting. Asked by reporters what had come out of the
meeting, Sam Rainsy replied simply: "No, no, there is nothing."
Sam Rainsy's party made major gains in the July vote, although the
ruling party retained a majority of legislative seats. Official results
ratified last weekend gave Hun Sen's party 68 seats in the National
Assembly and Sam Rainsy's 55.
As the post-election standoff has dragged on, hopes had risen that King
Sihamoni could serve as a mediator, a role often played by his father.
The late Norodom Sihanouk helped broker an end to civil war in 1991 and
arrange power-sharing agreements after the 1993 and 2003 elections.
"The king is the only person right now who can get these two parties to
meet and discuss all their differences," opposition lawmaker Son Chhay
said this week.
Ou Virak, president of the Cambodian Center for Human Rights, said that
the discussions could have focused on allotting the opposition several
parliamentary leadership positions, reforming the electoral commission
and allowing Sam Rainsy to take a seat in parliament.
Just before the disputed vote, Sihamoni pardoned the then self-exiled
Sam Rainsy at the request of Hun Sen — likely under international
pressure to legitimize the poll. Sam Rainsy returned to Cambodia before
the election, but too late to register as a candidate himself.
Their meeting comes a day before the opposition has planned another mass
protest in Phnom Penh. Opposition leaders have said they expect 20,000
people to turn out again to demand an investigation into the election
results. They say the protest will continue for three days.

I appeal to All Cambodian, if you want to have freedom, justice, democracy, development, good future, good life, good salary, peace you must come to join the Big demonstration, this is time we all must come to show the world that we do not want to have dictatorship leader like HUN SEN anymore, HUN SEN has sold our country to Vietnam, HUN SEN has sold forestry, land, natural resources to Vietnam and HUN SEN control everything from Justice, police, military and all governors, who want to against HUNSEN, he will kill
Think about the future of your children!
Think about Koh Tral island must not be forgotten!
Just stand up the whole country, see what happens? It is time to stop believing the King or anyone else, because if we all Khmers allow Ah Hun to continue blindly, our future is done, Cambodia will becomes Nambodia.
Koh Tral Island must not be forgotten
By “any patriot Khmers”
Why do Koh Tral Island, known in Vietnam as Phu Quoc, a sea and land area covering proximately over 30,000 km2 [Note: the actual land size of Koh Tral itself is 574 square kilometres (222 sq miles)] have been lost to Vietnam by whose treaty? Why don’t Cambodia government be transparent and explain to Cambodia army at front line and the whole nation about this? Why don't they include this into education system? Why?
Cambodian armies are fighting at front line for 4.6 km2 on the Thai border and what's about over 30,000km2 of Cambodia to Vietnam. Nobody dare to talk about it! Why? Cambodian armies you are decide the fate of your nation, Cambodian army as well as Cambodian people must rethink about this again and again. Is it fair?
Koh Tral Island, the sea and land area of over 30,000 square kilometres have been lost to Vietnam by the 1979 to 1985 treaties. The Cambodian army at front line as well as all Cambodian people must rethink again about these issues. Are Cambodian army fighting to protect the Cambodia Nation or protecting a very small group that own big lands, big properties or only protecting a small group but disguising as protecting the Khmer nation?
The Cambodian army at front lines suffer under rain, wind, bullets, bombs, lack of foods, lack of nutrition and their families have no health care assistance, no securities after they died but a very small group eat well, sleep well, sleep in first class hotel with air conditioning system with message from young girls, have first class medical care from oversea medical treatments, they are billionaires, millionaires who sell out the country to be rich and make the Cambodian people suffer everyday.
Who signed the treaty 1979-1985 that resulted in the loss over 30,000 km2 of Cambodia??? Why they are not being transparent and brave enough to inform all Cambodians and Cambodian army at front line about these issues? Why don't they include Koh Tral (Koh Tral size is bigger than the whole Phom Phen and bigger than Singapore [Note: Singapore's present land size is 704 km2 (271.8 sq mi)]) with heap of great natural resources, in the Cambodian education system?
Look at Hun Sen's families, relatives and friends- they are billionaires, millionaires. Where did they get the money from when we all just got out of war with empty hands [in 1979]? Hun Sen always say in his speeches that Cambodia had just risen up from the ashes of war, just got up from Year Zero with empty hands and how come they are billionaires, millionaires but 90% of innocent Cambodian people are so poor and struggling with their livelihood every day?
Don't follow the footsteps of FUNCIPEC like the 1993 elections. This bullying and dishonest dealing by CPP must not continue. Why after 30 years they still should continue to control Cambodia?
Any bloodshed haapened, will be 100% on the CPP thugs because only they, who have the means and intention to commit any bloodshed.
If you allow these thugs to continue to control your life, everyone will be all his little puppet, like the current king who only moves when the strong man pulls the strings.
Remember folks, everyone in this world will die sooner or later, but the question is do we want to die under Youns control or die by saving our country from Youns.
Manet, your father does not own Cambodia. You saw America and studied about its greatness; there is no way in hell a dictator like you father could rule and control people'lives for this long!
Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha must not agree to any power sharing with the devil even at the urge of the useless King who has continuously and miserably failed His duty!
They must only talk about the people's demand for an independent investigation into election irregularities and nothing else.
You cannot allow the thief to get away because the thief wants to give you some of his stolen objects.
Stick with your original demand if voters continue to support you for such a demand; do not disappoint your supporters!

34 years in power is more than enough. Hun Sen is a khmer killer. He never been elected by people. He was being installed by outsiders to continue to steal and kill us khmers on a daily basis. Hun Sen must go and it has to be now. He lied and cheated all of us for the last 34 years and it should be enough. We have to stand up together for the benefit of our nation.
Hun Sen gave order to King Hecmoni to request for this meeting and to say what he wanted the king to say. This king has to do what is told to do or else, this Hun Dynasty will let him down.
So, king has no choice but to do what is told to do. Because Hun Sen controls everything from court house to armed forces etc. Hun Sen is also being controlled by a group of mafia known as the 'VN and China'. So, we khmers must stand up and fight for your right. Because this country belongs to khmers not the Hun nor the gangster group.
The time is now, or never. Hun Sen should be smarter by now too, because he is being used by outsiders, in order for them to swallow it all and soon, they are going to get rid of him just like they did to all of our predecessors before then too. They did it to Laos, Chompa, Khmer krom and now, the whole srok khmer if you let them and soon, all of your generations will be under their feet. They are going to be used like a ginny pig like always.
So, please wake up before it is too late. You got to be smarter by now. Don't let history repeats itself, just let the outsiders know that, they lost and we won, how? just give up your power and let our compariots do the work. The rest is history.

Street protests might be a legitimate way to oppose the government, but such action could affect political stability. The country is peaceful at present, but there is always the possibility of such action ending in chaos and violence. Hun Sen has a record of using force to crack down on opposing voices. Of course he would be wrong to do so - and it could spell the end of his political career. Equally, such an outcome should not be permitted to weaken Cambodia's parliamentary system either.
It is sad to see that the king does not fulfil his duties prescribed by our constitution, articles 8&9. They are clear that the king is the protector of rights and freedom of Cambodians(article 8). The king can ensure that public power of the kingdom used to abuse Cambodians.
The king can work with NGOs nationally and internationally, to ensure Justice and Peace can be enjoyed by Cambodians. The king can work with RGC but NOT to be blindly followed by RGC.
Be good Buddhist , it means that we have compassion to those disadvantaged, poors and avoid working with the devils those who oppress and harm others.
Please be ready to attend the peaceful demonstration in order to beat those devils living off those sufferings of others.
Khmer helps khmer, khmer will survive.
