I look forward to standing/sitting/walking side-by-side with all the tens of thousands of Cambodians who will be converging onto Phnom Penh from across Cambodia beginning this Sunday (Sept. 15) through Tuesday of the continuous 3-day mass, non-violent protests demanding an independent joint committee into election fraud.

 

About 5 minutes ago, a bomb exploded at the National Assembly. Yesterday, an unexploded grenade in Siem Reap where the electric crowds once again greeted Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha. Tomorrow, Sept. 14, the King will meet with Sam Rainsy and Hun Sen, the first time the 2 will meet since Sam Rainsy returned from exile and since the elections. Beginning this Sunday, Sept. 15, the democratic CNRP will hold a 3-day massive demonstration.

No one was hurt at both these events. Pure threats to remind the restless, defiant population of the CPP's penchant for violence, in addition to the presence of the armed forces and armored vehicles scattered across the capital. The hatred of the CPP is so sharp and loud that these threats will only further emboldened the people to be more defiant. The CPP is limited in their use of violence because of the quickly changing political, social context and the hanging threat of the International Criminal Court. They know they cannot contain violence once they unleash it, particularly now given the defiant, fearless disposition of the Cambodian people.
