Golden memories ... សុវណ្ណអនុស្សារ

Food sustains the body; books nourish the mind; music awakens the soul.
So what was it about Chieng Mai and Mr Samouth's famous song [below] that prompted School of Vice to spend two weeks in that famed city? No, no, nothing remotely like that... It was rather that famous grilled catfish spiced with lemon grass as main ingredient. Took a long time to order, though...but well worth the wait. Highly recommended!

PS: I should add that if I were Mr Sinn Sisamouth I would write a song about grilled cat fish! Oh, did I mention my other favourite, sticky rice with mango slices served with coconut cream? Yummy... {and yes, this one is entirely vegetarian, if not vegan-getarian...whatever! You know what I mean?}

I'd better stop right here...You do know how to drive people crazy with your experiences, "SOV"....But I like it....LOLZ!!! I don't care what Jendha said about you, lolz!! And keep sharing please?

Thank you very much for SereySothea's song. Have a pleasant weekend!!!

My goodness! grilled catfish! Poor catfish, you have to die for human...I will never ever turn you into my food, because I'm so kind. I only live to eat. I don't eat to live like Mr. School of Vice or that guy Kal :) I'm all that and a bag of chips. Who would not like me. The person who does not like me must be blind. Wait a minute, that must Hun Sen and Hun Sen's clowns. Sorry, the truth hurts. Please do not go kick the table :)

Wait, I mean I only eat to live, not live to eat. Sorry catfish.

Hey it's only fish, Jendha! Are you a veggie or something? Even so, one can still consume fish...lolz!!!

Kal, I am very very strict vegetarian. Almost like a vegan. I only consume vegetables, fruits, nuts and beans. I don't like to eat anyway. I spend most of my time smiling at the grass, dogs, casts and birds, so I don't really need to eat :)

mr. sin sisamouth when he was still alive, everywhere he traveled all over the world, he would dream up a song or two about those overseas places he visited. so, as a talented songwriter and singer himself, no surprise!

it's hard to believe that the whole cambodia do not have the live video or motion picture of sin sisamouth, ros seresothea, pen ron, etc singing and dancing. a lot of young khmer would love to see them in video or movie singing with their talented, beautiful voices.

i heard from my parents that in those days these famous khmer singers were really good at what they do, i.e., singing and dancing.

Thank you very much SOV for the very beautiful songs, especially Chomrieng Teo Ek is one of my favorite.

The song released in 1972? and it was in my collection list that I played late at night. I remember I shared the girly talks with my sister while we listened to the music under the bright moon light shone through our window replacing the electricity light. The coconut leaves under the moon light were very shining just like being greased with oil, and the fragrance of Chompa Khek and Chek Tum flowers complemented the night thus took away our fear of the KR's random and deadly rocket launching to destroy our peaceful lives.

When I listen to the song, I contemplate the memorable moment with my sister with whom had never had a chance to be a completed mother she was so deserved to be.

Yeay Tep,

I do agree with you and know exactly why it's best to listen to these songs in the late evening because for one thing the mind is a lot calmer then and that's when it is most spiritually receptive to the full aesthetic intensity of the music.

It is also that whole tropical world habitat and atmosphere; the romance of the moon and the feeling of being held captive by her power and charm from by the window sill, the cool evening breeze touching and rustling the coconut branches and our very being, the sounds of the orchestra of insects that all combine to inspire the heart to sing and dream.

As we listen to these songs from anywhere in the world, these are the romance and drama these songs transport and convey to their audience.

Timeless and priceless 'golden memories', and that's why I name them so...

Hun Sen already setup the National Election Committee (NEC) final result 1 day after an election started that CPP got 68 National Assembly seats and 55 seats for Mr. Sam Rainsy (CNRP - Cambodian National Rescue Party). NEC announced that same final result on Sept. 8, 2013 that CPP got 68 seats and CNRP got 55 seats.

Hun Sen election fraud will stay in the Cambodian heart for life. Cambodian is still fighting for land and survive for life.

Hun Sen must go.

Time is running fast!
It's hard to believe I am 65!
I was always listening these songs I was young and am still listening them now.

It is hard for me to go back to sleep when I woke up at the middle of the night because I am always recalling/remembering my old time with my friends during the '60 and '70.

I turn on my computer and listen these old songs on yutube and look back to my teenager's life with a cup of coffee.

I don't want to be old but I cannot change myself to be 18 again, just stay old and waiting for my time...

I love these song!

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Thank you for posting these songs!

Please don't be too hard on yourselves and others. Art, music, food are parts of life, and without them we cannot create, develop our culture and civilization.

Please chill out! It's OK to be relax even we are very concerning about Cambodia and its people's future.
Don't you think it's very nice and cute to watch young people exchange their feeling and great sentimental ideas. I strongly believe this is much better than reading the swearing, cursing, twisting and manipulating stories with frustration on unresolved situation.
I bet you would have been through the same thing and enjoyed the very moment at some stage.

For your consolation I'd like to share the very nice and famous quote in khmer language:

" Boros Et Vichea Doch Toungvear Kmean Reaksmey, Neary Et Svamey Doch Reatrey Kmean Preah Chan."

PS: A friend of mine changed the last bit from: " Neary Et Svamey... Doch Meh Krobey Et Kantouy."

Not to sound too cliché about it or anything like that, but your [nom de plume] "Khmeng Watt Botum" alone says it all: you are young at heart, Gramps!
Don't worry, be always happy Gramps! The past is the past, there is not much one can do about it except to enjoy it to the max just like you enjoy those 60 and 70's oldies. And it's good that you can talk about it and share it with others like you are doing now here on KI-Media...I like that in a Grandpa like you Gramps! Keep up with it and take good care of yourself, okay Gramps! It's excellent and very positive when you enjoy those songs over a cup of coffee and not a beer or a shot of Cognac-Hennessy or any alcohol beverage of any kind [like Khiev Kanharith?]...

Take very good care of yourself, Gramps...and thanks again for sharing!!!

What kind of romance are you talking about 3:49AM? I've gone through those comments 3 times and I still haven't found any so-called romance you are alluded to...can you pinpoint it out to us please? Thanks.

Dear 3:49 AM

Oh come on, lighten up heh? Have some sense of fun or perspective. Please read Yeay Tep's comments above.

If they are about to run off together to the Gobi desert or something, they wouldn't be letting us all in on their intentions, now would they? Besides, I can't see one of them leading a life staring at grass all day long and eating nothing but nuts and peas, or is it pea-nuts!? For Buddha's sake...

That said, your childlike persistence on this whole silly thing is making me feel strangely sad. Perhaps, you are still a very young person?

Kind thoughts.

Koh Tral Island must not be forgotten

By “any patriot Khmers”

Why do Koh Tral Island, known in Vietnam as Phu Quoc, a sea and land area covering proximately over 30,000 km2 [Note: the actual land size of Koh Tral itself is 574 square kilometres (222 sq miles)] have been lost to Vietnam by whose treaty? Why don’t Cambodia government be transparent and explain to Cambodia army at front line and the whole nation about this? Why don't they include this into education system? Why?

Cambodian armies are fighting at front line for 4.6 km2 on the Thai border and what's about over 30,000km2 of Cambodia to Vietnam. Nobody dare to talk about it! Why? Cambodian armies you are decide the fate of your nation, Cambodian army as well as Cambodian people must rethink about this again and again. Is it fair?

Koh Tral Island, the sea and land area of over 30,000 square kilometres have been lost to Vietnam by the 1979 to 1985 treaties. The Cambodian army at front line as well as all Cambodian people must rethink again about these issues. Are Cambodian army fighting to protect the Cambodia Nation or protecting a very small group that own big lands, big properties or only protecting a small group but disguising as protecting the Khmer nation?

The Cambodian army at front lines suffer under rain, wind, bullets, bombs, lack of foods, lack of nutrition and their families have no health care assistance, no securities after they died but a very small group eat well, sleep well, sleep in first class hotel with air conditioning system with message from young girls, have first class medical care from oversea medical treatments, they are billionaires, millionaires who sell out the country to be rich and make the Cambodian people suffer everyday.

Who signed the treaty 1979-1985 that resulted in the loss over 30,000 km2 of Cambodia??? Why they are not being transparent and brave enough to inform all Cambodians and Cambodian army at front line about these issues? Why don't they include Koh Tral (Koh Tral size is bigger than the whole Phom Phen and bigger than Singapore [Note: Singapore's present land size is 704 km2 (271.8 sq mi)]) with heap of great natural resources, in the Cambodian education system?

Look at Hun Sen's families, relatives and friends- they are billionaires, millionaires. Where did they get the money from when we all just got out of war with empty hands [in 1979]? Hun Sen always say in his speeches that Cambodia had just risen up from the ashes of war, just got up from Year Zero with empty hands and how come they are billionaires, millionaires but 90% of innocent Cambodian people are so poor and struggling with their livelihood every day?
