Honorable Exit Strategy and A Constitutional Coup

A "Constitutional Coup"

The political stalemate is turning into a war of attrition.  And I am confident the people, represented by the CNRP, will prevail.  Because truth is on their side.  Hun Sen would be wise in this yet-open window of opportunity to make the honorable exit.

Despite the sporadic violence and intimidation, the people continue to be fearless, defiant, embracing the moment and riding the wave of change with at-once hopeful, grim determination.  I only wish the foreign press can fully feel the passion, the fearlessness, the determination, the sophisticated articulation of these protesters, who sold their chickens and other livestock to come to Phnom Penh for the mass 3-day protest, coming on faith that food, shelter and water will be provided for.  (They were.)

Now back in their remote villages, the local authority are intimidating them -- "If only I was ordered to shoot, I'd shoot" -- the reaction almost universally is the same refrain -- "When is the next mass protest; we are ready to go again!"

Meanwhile, the CPP has lost completely its sense of balance and proportion (if it ever had it): hundreds of darkly armored troop against a group of 30 meditating monks and another group of 60 youths in light blue, peace-symbol T-shirts s, divided by razor sharp barbed wiring coiling the main thoroughfares of the tourist district.  In full war gear, the troops grimaced against the marching monks in flying bright saffron robes and peace-uniformed youths, peacefully meditating, praying, attempting to present their petition--boxes of them carried in medieval rickshaws, which was only gathered in a matter of hours--some 260,000+ signatures.

Theary Seng and Khieu Lay (an activist made by her eviction from Borei Keila and whom security forces had assaulted often at demonstrations, losing her glass eye which she had no money to replace, and who was part of the handful of women on the hunger strike when thugs and police cracked down on them Sunday night), 23 Sept. 2013, Wat Phnom.
The night of the same day (Sunday, Sept. 22), gangsters and thugs working in cahoots with the CPP security forces violently cracked down on a handful of women (evictees of the Boeung Kak Lake and Borei Keila neighborhoods) and monks who were on a hunger strike protesting the King's presence to open the National Assembly the next morning.  The thugs and gangsters with security forces looking on also attacked human rights monitors and the press.

One does not have to be a professional photographer to understand the media moment.  And that proves to be the case; the citizens took out their iPhones and plastered Facebook with these almost surreal scenes, as if from a movie set from the Medieval period -- overwhelming force barricading the iconic palace grounds, as rows of monks and youths chant and pray for peace, encircling the palace.  All the while, the people and the press wonder the ration of house arrest to freedom for the handsome former ballet King.

The violence at Wat Phnom Penh took place under the cover of darkness, not only it was night, but a couple of hours before the crackdown, the electricity around Wat Phnom were turned off.

Of the hundreds of "advisers" the CPP employs, what do they do?!  Does not even one of them have the gut to say, "Dude, this is not cool.  Cut it out!"

The CPP overplayed its hand in the deployment of troops, if only for intimidation, which has no (or little) effect anymore.  And the thuggery of Sunday night only further emboldened the people and now the press against them.

Outright mass violence?  It cannot, for reasons I've already expounded elsewhere.  Mainly, they cannot limit its scope; and if mass violence, the International Criminal Court looms.

It is UNTENABLE for Hun Sen to be Prime Minister.  The CPP needs a more acceptable face to replace Hun Sen; it is Sar Kheng.

As CNRP Sam Rainsy stated, "It is a Constitutional coup," the opening session of the National Assembly with ONLY the Cambodian People's Party presence as the CNRP boycotted it.

I agree with the recommendation put forth by CNRP Sam Rainsy:  Since both parties claim victory, it is reasonable that both parties share power in this interim period, until an independent joint commission is established and makes its determination on the election irregularities.

The interim power-sharing would have the CPP head the government and the CNRP head the National Assembly.  The judiciary--the 3rd branch--would be reformed for independence.

it goes both way, if cpp people are wise, they should just let people who wanted to protest protest. but authorities should emphasize non-violence, meaning no rock throwing, not gun or other deadly weapons are allowed, period. violators should be fined or imprisonned or both. just let people have their god given freedom and rights to protest. listen to what they have to say and decide whether that demand is constitutional or not with the frame of the rule of law, of course. if government can do this for a change, then, i think people and the world even will see that government is flexible and willing to reform and work things out. and be patient, especially the cnrp group. everthing in cambodia takes time.

remember cambodia needs adjustment as most concepts being introduced in cambodia in this new era is new to most cambodia and its khmer citizens, especially in cambodia itself. i can't say the same for those live overseas because they've been exposed to the ideas, concepts from outside of cambodia. i think cambodia will embrace changes, eventually, the key is have patience with cambodia and its people.

and stop using too much youn this or youn that about cambodia all the time. cambodia is not all about just youn. nowadays, you have all kind of people traveling and living outside of their country of origin, even khmer people, too, get to live overseas in the millions. why are khmer political people like the cnrp always using youn in their complain all the time. don't they know people are sick and tired of hearing that.

i have nothing against cambodia nor do i like youn myself. but what i'm saying is why continue to exploit the youn racist thing on cambodia forever? why?

and if the cnrp continue to do so, using youn phobia, some people like myself wonder into the future, what would be the cnrp's foreign policy or foreign agenda if say in the future of election they might win. what would be their foreign policy toward youn and siem, china, etc, if now they seemed to show they favor only the western style of democracy. sometimes, people have to be inquisitive. what would the cnrp has to tell about their foreign policy if they are bias towards some and not other? sometimes, it is old stuff and too much when politicians always exploit racism that's not really in the interest of cambodia in general. is it only for their own political agenda or strategy to fool people they want to win? sometimes, one has gotten to wonder out loud about the cnrp's racial exploitation.

another idea is why not cambodia alternate each party to rule every 5 years, instead of having election. just alternate the two major political parties to rule every 65 year turn. this way no need for election and crisis following it like now. what cambodian people think about that? take turn every 5 years and see your can do better then the other every 5 years.

many khmer krom speak and write khmer better than some khmer overseas or in cambodia, so, why continue to exploit racism, especially youn. it's getting old!

if i were the leader of cambodia, instead of exploiting racism, whether youn, siem or what have you, i implement a national policy to turn all of them into khmer so cambodia can benefit. reguired them to learn khmer, speak and write khmer fluently and to pledge allegiance to cambodia. the world should be a colorless, raceless place for all. instead, play by the rule of law. i dream someday cambodia would implement this national policy and reap the benefit once and for all. forget national origin in the future. cambodia should visualize the brighter, happier, prosperous future. stop the hate, the discrimination, the bias. live by the code of conduct and code of ethics is way better then what is it now. again, this is just by dream someday for cambodia. cambodian or khmer is the official language with english and french the second language in business and medicine, respectively. i'm talking about cambodia. and don't tell me, th cnrp can do better and the cpp, that's now how you get along, you don't instigate others, instead find a common ground and go with that.

LOL it's like someone broke your rib, and you kept yelling at that person to surrender. How on earth a loser can ask a winner to exit. Only Theary Seng can think this way. It's like asking Obama to give Romney presidency after election. Also how on earth a loser demand a prominent position in parliament? It's like Democrat party asking Republican party to give them position of speaker of the house even Democrats have fewer elected representatives. Theary Seng comes from America, but her love for Rainsy really clouds her judgment. Bias much...

It appears that Theary Seng is a Democrat based on her Pseudonym "Khmer Democrat".

Somehow Theary Seng can be a parasite oe viruses to get what she wants if the non-democrat lose, she may be with the only winner.

Theary Seng can be with both sides to get ahead, which we called the smart Opportunist Theary Seng in 21th Century.

You are DEAD Wrong. Yuon expansionism is not ended until Yuon will become the majority people in Laos and Cambodia.

And don't use Race Card when Yuon are thieves and invaders. Race Card is outdated, so stop BS. Because NO one will buy your Race Card anymore.
