Hun Sen renamed Cambodia PM as opposition boycotts

Why he looks so sad? Aren't he suppose to be happy?

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — Ruling party lawmakers in Cambodia officially extended Hun Sen's rule for another five years Tuesday, renaming the longtime strongman prime minister of the Southeast Asian nation in a parliamentary vote boycotted by the opposition.

The vote was considered a formality, and Hun Sen — who has ruled virtually unchallenged for nearly three decades — will take the oath of office in front of King Norodom Sihamoni at the Royal Palace later in the day.

The opposition stayed away from parliament's opening session Monday and boycotted the legislature again Tuesday over allegations the country's disputed July ballot was marred by fraud.

Hun Sen and opposition leader Sam Rainsy have held talks several times this month in an effort to resolve the political deadlock. Hun Sen told reporters Tuesday he was ready to talk again — but only if opposition lawmakers take their seats in parliament.

He also said the ruling party was considering offering several senior posts to the opposition, including vice president of the legislature.

The parliamentary vote Tuesday saw all 68 ruling party lawmakers rename Hun Sen to his post. All 55 seats held by the opposition were empty.

Hun Sen's Cambodian People's Party took a surprise hit in the July election, seeing its majority weaken while the opposition secured 55 seats, up from the 29 it had previously held.

The result emboldened the opposition, which has staged several protests and pushed unsuccessfully for an independent probe of election irregularities.

None of it derailed Hun Sen's track to stay in power, and analysts say the opposition has few options left.

"This is a huge wake-up call (for Hun Sen's government) ... and now they all acknowledge that they all need to reform," said Ou Virak, president of the Cambodian Center for Human Rights. "But the question is, are they able to reform?"

Cambodia historian David Chandler, emeritus professor of history at Australia's Monash University, said the opposition could resume protests "take to the streets, but that's very dangerous" because of the threat of bloodshed.

At least one person died and 10 were injured when security forces cracked down on opposition protests earlier this month.

And on Sunday, security forces backed by thugs broke up a peaceful opposition protest at a Buddhist temple compound in the capital, wielding stun guns, electric batons and slingshots that left about 10 people injured, said Rupert Abbott of Amnesty International. Among the injured was a 72-year-old woman hit in the chest with a marble fired from a slingshot, he said.

On Monday, Sam Rainsy called the convening of parliament without the opposition "a step backward for Cambodia" and a violation of "the constitution which calls for pluralism, not one-party rule."

Hun Sen responded Tuesday, saying the opposition's decision not to attend was its own and the legislature's doors remained open.

In his heart, messir dek cho knows he and his cpp thugs cheated again? He has become more and more a liability for Hanoi, because in one fell swoop, his and his clans' world could go upside down. The recent show of support for CNRP was a fresh example to prove that he has already become less relevant and feared.

If these aholes don't seriously care about getting the country to be one of law and order, when after they all have croaked, none of their fancy-schooled children will be able to keep the country out of turmoils and bloodshed. They are teaching their children to be cheaters and selfish aholes. Do not thinks all the youths, the civilians, or the military personnels are dumb and blind people who cannot see the corruption and nepotism of the ilks like ah dek cho, ah suosdei, and ah ting maung.

Why he looks so sad? Isn’t he supposed to be happy, lung cancer?
He finally realizes that fewer and fewer people like him.
His day is numbered.
His cronies reap all the benefits, but he gets all the blames, so he feels like a stupid jackass.

The CPP government cannot provide major reforms that will make a difference for the life of average Cambodians and for the true prosperity of the country. It will not be able to tackle corruption that is rampant among the supporters of Hun Sen.

Nepotism, cronyism, and the well-entrenched system of patronage within the party and government make it impossible for any serious reforms.

Remember that Hun Sen continues to stay in power not because of the will of the people, but by the supports of those who get their positions not through qualifications but through the right connection.

Just look at the case of Im Soursdey getting a seat in the parliament. Isn‘t this new illegal government supposed to embrace an idea of reforms?

You scratch my back and I will scratch yours.

For a true reform to happen, Hun Sen must go and he should as the people have spoken and voted him out.

Pissed Off

He is elected by CPP MPs, which was NOT elected by the people or Voters. The CPP MPs are elected by the NEC. thus rendering Hun Sen not a legit PM. If Hun Sen so strong and believed that he and his party won't this election, there is NO REASON why HE CANNOT OPEN THE ORIGINAL BALLOTS PAPER FOR A RECOUNT. This will end the deadlock and who ever WIN should be the REAL PRIME MINISTER OF CAMBODIA. Again when we saw the NEC president sworn in as CPP MPs, the plots thicken and the CHEAT AND THE ELECTIONS RIGGED is solidifying even more. To the donors countries they should HELD ALL DONATED FUNDS until and unless the voting irregularities is address by an independent committee referee by the UN and other 1991 peace agreement members. Any countries who decided to do business with Hun Sen now...is purely to their risks and the CPP's MPs should be held liable for any country losses....

Hun Sen thinks of himself as a smart man, but behind his back his cronies regard him as a stupid jackass.
They reap all the benefits, but Hun Sen gets all the blames.

Prime Minister Hun Sen,

You are powerful, so powerful. Even crimininels of that country are afraid of you and obey you.

You are so powerful that you have no trouble defying the will of the people, to bend the will of the king, to dodge international outrage.

You are so powerful that you are not even sensitive to ruin your nation.
That's right, a powerful man should stay insensible, doesn't he ?
The most important is to continue to be the most powerful.

You are rich, so rich. You have everything, money, power, land ... The only thing you do not have is the love of your people.

Yes, the people do not like you, mr. Hun Sen, as you destroy their lives, you leave them no future.

And the words are light compared to spells you book for them.

You're famous, yes so famous. The people you reward champion of the dark side, and you enter into the story as one of the greatest destroyers of their country.
We will remember you now and further along as the one who sow the disaster in the country for 30 years.

And now, what do you plan to do for the next 5 coming years prime misnister ?
Teach your children and your grandchildren how to live in peace with foreigners on our land?
