Well, what can I say this morning, but "Thank You, both very much" for certainly the best news you have posted on KI site? It certainly makes my day listening to this song, reading KI news and drinking a good cup of the morning coffee!
This song is one of the very few best songs I have loved and continue to love more each time I listen to it. Ms. Huoy Meas is certainly a very talented singer.
The song brings back a nice and more or less romantic souvenir of the Khao-I-Dang refugee camp of the early 80s. I and my friend were having Kuy Teav in one of the few makeshift restaurants of the camp when the song was loudly played on the owner's tape recorder. We were enjoying both the noodles and the song when, all of a sudden, a young beautiful Khmer girl appeared at our table and asked if we would like to buy her flowers. Of course, we did and my friend fell in love at the first sight with the flower girl. The rest of the story I will leave it at your imagination since I do respect personal privacy of anyone I know.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank Ms. Jendhamuni for all the news she posts on KI Site.
As for Mr. School of Vice, you have never failed to surprise me with your good taste of Khmer songs!
I take my hat off to both of you for this marvelously melodious song!

Thank you so much for being so kind. Very hard to find one kind person these days. Well, except for me :) Lovely story/souvenir you shared here. This is in fact one of my favorite songs by Ms. Huy meas. I heard of this song since I was very young, when I listened to the story, "Konlong bak slap, Koalp bak tong" A very sad, story, but I never know the ending.

Koh Tral Island must not be forgotten

Why do Koh Tral Island, known in Vietnam as Phu Quoc, a sea and land area covering proximately over 30,000 km2 [Note: the actual land size of Koh Tral itself is 574 square kilometres (222 sq miles)] have been lost to Vietnam by whose treaty? Why don’t Cambodia government be transparent and explain to Cambodia army at front line and the whole nation about this? Why don't they include this into education system? Why?
Cambodian armies are fighting at front line for 4.6 km2 on the Thai border and what's about over 30,000km2 of Cambodia to Vietnam. Nobody dare to talk about it! Why? Cambodian armies you are decide the fate of your nation, Cambodian army as well as Cambodian people must rethink about this again and again. Is it fair?
Koh Tral Island, the sea and land area of over 30,000 square kilometres have been lost to Vietnam by the 1979 to 1985 treaties. The Cambodian army at front line as well as all Cambodian people must rethink again about these issues. Are Cambodian army fighting to protect the Cambodia Nation or protecting a very small group that own big lands, big properties or only protecting a small group but disguising as protecting the Khmer nation?
The Cambodian army at front lines suffer under rain, wind, bullets, bombs, lack of foods, lack of nutrition and their families have no health care assistance, no securities after they died but a very small group eat well, sleep well, sleep in first class hotel with air conditioning system with message from young girls, have first class medical care from oversea medical treatments, they are billionaires, millionaires who sell out the country to be rich and make the Cambodian people suffer everyday.
Who signed the treaty 1979-1985 that resulted in the loss over 30,000 km2 of Cambodia??? Why they are not being transparent and brave enough to inform all Cambodians and Cambodian army at front line about these issues? Why don't they include Koh Tral (Koh Tral size is bigger than the whole Phom Phen and bigger than Singapore [Note: Singapore's present land size is 704 km2 (271.8 sq mi)]) with heap of great natural resources, in the Cambodian education system?
Look at Hun Sen's families, relatives and friends- they are billionaires, millionaires. Where did they get the money from when we all just got out of war with empty hands [in 1979]? Hun Sen always say in his speeches that Cambodia had just risen up from the ashes of war, just got up from Year Zero with empty hands and how come they are billionaires, millionaires but 90% of innocent Cambodian people are so poor and struggling with their livelihood every day?

I watched the movie in 1973 at Chenla Theatre. It was a very sad ending because the female character (Actress Kim Nova and I forgot her name)who was a flowers' merchant as reflected in the song, got married with the best friend of the male character ( Nop Nem, Kim Nova's husband in real life)who was her rescuer and she called him POU.
He was broken heart and the story ended by showing the viewers that he sat on a rock at sun set on a beach may be at Kampong Som until high tide came. Then later we saw one of his shoe being washed back to the shore.
I remember I wore the copied some of the clothing style from the female character during their very happy time with her POU.
My Lord Buddha, I am very grateful you've brought this piece of memory to me that I have treasured it for a very long time.

Wow, that is a sad ending for real. I only got to listen to the part, where her lover's mother tried to separate her from him. So she went from place to place selling flowers, looking for him. Then my aunt told me to stop listen and hide the tape. That's all I know. So very sad indeed. This song became one of my favorite song since then. ~Jendhamuni
Since it's Sunday and we have nostalgia with Mrs Houy Meas AKA Mme Vandy Kessaro from 1970...
I sincerely hope SOV or any other KI team would be so kind to post or repost her song called "DONG STEUNG SNEHA", the original version released in 1965, not by Ros Serey Sothear in 1972.
PS: I understand those who are not into this golden memories would be cranky with my request, but c'est la vie.
Memories are essential for all being to cherish their mind and spirit. I am so happen to have sometimes for myself from my very busy schedule with the public audience because they are occupying with the Pchum Ben celebration at their temples.

I'm one of the biggest fans of Golden Memories. The only kind of songs I listen too, besides smote. I used to know how to sing almost every song when I was much younger. Now I'm kind of old, so I have more works to do, never really have time to listen to any songs. I have many Khmer songs from the 60's at my house. But I'm not familiar with the song "Steung Sneha" yet. I love Ms. Huy Meas and Ros Sereysothea the most. And for male singers, I love Mr. Sinn Sisamuth and SoS Math a lot. So glad you have some time for myself. Infact, yesterday was the last day of my vacation. ~Jendhamuni
