PHNOM PENH - Opposition leader Sam Rainsy on Thursday paid a visit to a site of post-election violence on the outskirts of Phnom Penh, addressing a large crowd of people and imploring them to join a mass demonstration on Saturday.
Sam Rainsy, who is president of the Cambodia National Rescue Party, addressed nearly 1,000 people at the Stung Meanchey pagoda, where following the July 28 elections a crowd of people massed in the streets, overturned military police vehicles and lit them on fire. A similar crowd also banned many Vietnamese speakers from voting on Election Day.
Sam Rainsy called on them to join his supporters at Freedom Park in Phnom Penh on Saturday.
He told reporters later that the Rescue Party remains intent on holding a non-violent demonstration, following elections in July that he says were marred by irregularities.
“We are committed to demanding justice for the voters and receiving 100 percent justice,” he said.
A supporter outside the pagoda, who asked that she not be named, said she planned on taking part in Saturday’s demonstration. “I want to join, because I want peace and good leaders,” she said.

Please be the judge: Who is the real Varman?
Rwanda’s Economic Miracle 19 years after the genocide vs Cambodia's total forest heritage destruction 30 years after the genocide
Please Samdech - do a favor to Cambodian ancestors by stepping down so that we Khmers do not look so backward and shameful. In which field of development for the country your grandma can be proud of you: forest preservation, rice cultivation, fruit tree farming, or rural living standard?
Look at Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda who did not go to school either but with his spiritual awakening and love for his country, he could make the whole world respect Rwanda’s Economic Miracle. He took power since 1994 right after the Rwanda genocide. In comparison with our Sdech Moha Siccho Sena Bauss Dey (Moha means illusion), both uneducated, took power after the Genocide - Cambodia in 1978 and Rwanda in 1994 i.e 16 years less than the Cambodian counterpart, one rebuild the country to economic tiger, in contrast another one keeps destroying all heritage that his ancestors left for the country (destroy US$ one-million Rosewood trees for US$ one-thousand Eucalyptus let alone disastrous environment impacts).
Cambodian brothers and sisters, we do urgently need someone who has a sense of deep love for his/her countrymen and utmost respect for his/her country ancestral heritage. Someone who may self-proclaimed to be Preah Bath Hun Tien or Sdech kan but leads the country downhill if not total destruction in terms of eco-system should be impeached and removed in no time.
