Cambodia protests Thai road repairs

Bangkok Post, 14 Oct 2013 at 11.19

Cambodian authorities have protested and asked Thai authorities to stop repairs to a section of road near the border at the checkpoint at Chong Sangam in Si Sa Ket's Phusing district, Post Today online reported.

The repair work is being carried out on a 400-metre section of road on the Thai side of the border, about 100 metres from the customs office in Cambodia.

Following the protest, Thai and Cambodian authorities set up a negotiating table at a casino on the Cambodian side of the border.

Leading the Thai side in the talks was Phusing district chief Nop Pongpaladisai.  Maj Gen  Huat Him, Cambodia's deputy chief of staff of Military Region 4, led the Cambodian negotiators.

The situation on Monday morning was generally normal.  Tourists and local people were crossing the border from  both sides as usual.

The reason for the protest was not reported.
