Quote, unquote

‘Compromise makes a good umbrella, but a poor roof; it is temporary expedient, often wise in party politics, almost sure to be unwise in statesmanship.’

            James Russell Lowell

‘Social movements are at once the symptoms and the instruments of progress. Ignore them and statesmanship is irrelevant; fail to use them and it is weak.’

           Walter Lippmann

‘The art of statesmanship is to foresee the inevitable and to expedite its occurrence.’

           Charles Maurice de Talleyrand

Dear School of Vice,

I like this quote very much:

"Compromise makes a good umbrella, but a poor roof; it is temporary expedient, often wise in party politics, almost sure to be unwise in statesmanship."

It's somewhat similar to one of my favorite quotes, by Lord Buddha:

"An unreflecting mind is a poor roof. Passion, like the rain, floods the house. But if the roof is strong, there is shelter." ~Buddha

MANIPULATED REVOLUTION

"Power is not a means, it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship."
George Orwell

You can never have a revolution in order to establish a democracy. You must have a democracy in order to have a revolution.
Gilbert K. Chesterton

Every generation needs a new revolution.
