Surapong to Cambodia for talks

Surapong Tovichakchaikul
Bangkok Post, 27 Oct 2013

Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul will travel to Cambodia for talks with counterpart Hor Namhong in Poipet on Monday.

The talks come two weeks before the International Court of Justice is due to deliver its ruling on the Preah Vihear temple dispute on Nov 11.

Defence Ministry permanent-secretary Nipat Thonglek said Saturday the talks will be held to boost relations between the two countries.

Representatives from the armed forces will also participate, he said.

Nattawut Pothisaro, a deputy permanent secretary at the Foreign Ministry, said the two ministers are scheduled to hold a joint press conference at the border after the talks.

He added that the Foreign Ministry wanted to assure border residents that Thailand and Cambodia's relationship will not be affected by the ruling.

Mr Nattawut said he and the Thai ambassador to the Hague, Veerachai Palasai, will visit the border province of Si Sa Ket on Nov 5 to explain issues surrounding Thai and Cambodian relations to concerned officials

after the ruling, they can't use anymore excuses to steal from cambodia by saying the court did not rule on the 4.6 sq.km. areas or whatever. the court will help clarify with the legal map.

i know, in the past, often i read something somebody wrote about our preah vihear, i always came across someone said the court never ruled on the surrounding areas, thus thailand can claim it as theirs. but after this clarification by the court, nobody can say that again when they write about cambodia's preah vihear temple and its ruling by icj. this will actually makes it clear and ends thailand's dream of owning cambodia's preah vihear and respect the legal map that put in place by legal agreement created the borderlines since 1907. it'll end the excuses that the icj did not rule of the surrounding lands in according to the 1907 khmer/french-siamese map.

they say it's ambiguous, but after the ruling it will be clear.

No more fucken talking with the Siem thuggish leaders before the court ruling! Cambodian people had seen the so called assurance from the Siem thuggish leaders but at the end they deployed their army, big guns, and tanks to destroy Cambodia. And time, time, and time again the Siem thuggish leaders always violation of agreement and broken their words. The Siem leaders will always use force to achieve what they want from Cambodia!!!!!!

No more talking with the Siem thuggish leaders! The more any stupid Cambodian leaders talk to to the Siem thuggish leaders and the more Cambodian people will die along Thailand-Cambodia border and this is how the Siem thuggish are trying to convince the Cambodian leaders that they must give up otherwise more Cambodian people will die....Fuck the Siem thugs and their King and their stupid Buddhist religion!

Stop talking to the siamese. If we win the case, they will have to leave the Preah-Vihear area.
Period.

I am afraid this is another game between Viets and Thai. They probably are in the same boat, that is agree upon anything that belongs to Cambodia. Otherwise, they will make a big deal out of it e.g. the Viet agree to take part of the West and the Thai to take part of the East. History has shown that, our neighbouring countries have never been so good to us, anyway. Hor Nam Hong is working for the Viet's interest and so of course the negotiation is between East and West, right?

When these nations saw that we have problem with choosing leadership, they are over joyed. They don't want our country to be controlled by our educated ones, why? so that they can continue to steal, rob and kill us khmers. Because no outsiders would want us to grow but to fall apart.

It is time for Hun/Clan to go and it has to be now!

I don't believe Cambodia should be seen cozy with Thailand before the announcement of the verdict by the ICJ. I believe Cambodia should spend the time to actively lobby the ICJ to back on Cambodia claim based on all facts available. Cambodia must not take aback step about this issue, because it is in the heart of every Khmer. Win or lose will be judged by the Cambodian people as a more lost territory to Thailand and the more heart aching for the Cambodian people by the Cambodian leaders. Please work hard for this! Thailand is trying its magic again with the Cambodian govt and with the ICJ's susceptibility to sway. This verdict is all about how hard we want it, how cozy we are seen content with Thailand for whatever result the ICJ will give and the willingness to make a deal which translates as Cambodia loss. Cambodia don't want a deal nor do we want a set up. What we want is our rightful territory back so we can develop it after years of civil war without Thailand fault/makeup claim.

The court may not decide on the exact location of the border line. But in stead, they leave it to both country to negotiate with each other.
If it is the final result then Thai and Cambodia have no choice but have to negotiate with each other through Border Commission that are already in place to do the job.

khmer people always aware siem and youn have dirty tricks. that's why khmer people never trust them in the first place! call it racism or whatever, but khmer people love cambodia too much to sacrifice our lands to those thiefy and greedy neighboring countries of cambodia.

Anonymous said...

it's hard to deal with others because nowadays, even foreigners from another part of the world have their own interest whether with cambodia, thailand or vietnam or laos, etc... they have their own national interest. khmer people are aware of that!

i think the court of law will favor cambodia because thailand is aggressive in their approach to preah vihear. cambodia sought justice from the court. seeking justice by cambodia includes re-interpretation and clarification of everything deals with legal documents related to the border demarcation with thailand. one case at a time. in any court case, the losing party never be happy, but that's where the law comes in play! the court only deals with what is right or wrong and make their decision based on evidence and what is legal. they don't look at upset or mood or your country is bigger than my country or your army is bigger than my army, etc. they just don't. get used to it!
