A government bodyguard was arrested on Saturday after he allegedly threatened to kill three karaoke girls, including his ex-wife.

Korn Phally, 45, an employee at the Ministry of Interior’s Bodyguard Department, drove to 168 Restaurant in the capital’s Meanchey district looking for his ex-wife and three-year-old son, according to captain Prum Sophal, deputy commander of Meanchey District Police.

Officials said Phally claimed to have gone to the karaoke bar after his son went missing. The boy lived with his mother, but unbeknownst to Phally, had been sent to live with grandparents in Kandal province.

At 3:30am on Saturday, military police arrived after Phally slapped his ex-wife and threatened to kill her and two other karaoke girls. “He was preliminarily accused of using a weapon without authorisation and of threatening assault,” Sophal said.

Phally is now being detained for further questioning and will be sent to the Municipal Court today.
