before he was killed in an accident
PHNOM PENH, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Try Narin, governor of Banteay Meanchey province, died in a road accident early Wednesday, police said.
The accident occurred at 5:00 a.m. on National Road No. 5 in Battambong province when he was traveling on his personal car from Banteay Meanchey province to capital Phnom Penh, Sat Kimsan, chief of Battambong provincial traffic police, said.
"He died at the scene and his driver injured when their car crashed into the back of a cargo truck while the driver attempted to overtake the truck but then tried to pull back when he saw a car coming toward him," he told Xinhua over telephone.
The cargo truck escaped the scene after the accident.
Try Narin, the country's youngest governor, was appointed as governor of the northwestern province in May 2013.
Road accident is still the number 1 killer in Cambodia. In the first nine months of this year, road accidents killed at least 1, 469 people, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
