Recently
(early 2013), I discovered the sermons of my college pastor online.
While at Georgetown University (1991-95), I, along with 10-20 other
Georgetown friends, attended Fourth Presbyterian Church, a 10-15 minute
drive from campus through the manicured estates of Northwest Washington,
DC to the leafy suburban neighborhood of Bethesda in Maryland.
We drank in the deep wisdom of our college director, Chuck Jacob (now a senior pastor at Knox Presbyterian in Ann Arbor, MI) and of Dr. Rob Norris on Sunday mornings (and at times, classes he taught during the week days).
When I attended, the US Vice-President Dan Quayle and his family (and security detail), my Georgetown professor former UN Ambassador Jeanne Kirkpatrick, and many other well-known names from politics, academia and media, also attended. Dr. Norris' predecessor was then-chaplain of the US Senate, Dr. Richard Halverson.
All to say, if all of these accomplished people came Sunday after Sunday and benefited from Dr. Norris' sermons, maybe we too can find intellectual as well as spiritual nourishment from these talks?
It does not take long before one is taken in by the profundity and the humor -- not to mention, the accent! -- of Dr. Norris's exposition.

លោកម៉ូសេ បានសរសេរទុក
អំពី សេចក្ដីសុចរិត ដែលមក ពីក្រឹត្យវិន័យ ថា៖ «អ្នកណា
ប្រតិបត្តិតាម អ្វីៗ ដែលមានចែងទុក ក្នុងក្រឹត្យវិន័យ, អ្នកនោះ នឹងមានជីវិត ដោយសារ អំពើ ទាំងនោះ។» ចំពោះ សេចក្ដីសុចរិត
ដែលមក ពីជំនឿវិញ, មានចែង ថា, «អ្នក មិនត្រូវសួរ ក្នុងចិត្ត ថា, “តើ អ្នកណា នឹងឡើងទៅ ស្ថានបរមសុខ?”» (គឺ ថា, ដើម្បី នឹងនាំ ព្រះគ្រិស្ដ ចុះមក), ឬ «តើ អ្នកណា នឹងចុះទៅ ស្ថានក្រោម?» (គឺ ថា, ដើម្បី នាំព្រះគ្រិស្ដ ឡើងពីចំណោម មនុស្សស្លាប់មក)។ តែ ក្នុងគម្ពីរ
មានចែង ដូចម្ដេច? គឺ មានចែង ថា, «ព្រះបន្ទូល ស្ថិតនៅ ក្បែរអ្នក, នៅក្នុង មាត់អ្នក, និងនៅក្នុង ចិត្តអ្នកដែរ។» ព្រះបន្ទូលនេះ ជាព្រះបន្ទូល
ស្ដីអំពី ជំនឿ ដែលយើង ប្រកាស៖ ប្រសិនបើ មាត់អ្នក ប្រកាស ថា, «ព្រះយេស៊ូ ពិតជាព្រះអម្ចាស់,» ហើយ បើ ចិត្តអ្នក ជឿថា, ព្រះជាម្ចាស់ ពិតជាបានប្រោស
ព្រះយេស៊ូ ឲ្យមានព្រះជន្ម រស់ឡើងវិញមែន, នោះ អ្នក នឹងទទួល
ការសង្គ្រោះ ជាមិនខាន។ ដ្បិត បើចិត្តយើង ជឿ, យើង នឹងបាន សុចរិត; ហើយ បើ មាត់យើង ប្រកាស ជំនឿនោះ, យើង នឹងទទួល
ការសង្គ្រោះ។ ដូចមាន
ថ្លែងទុក ក្នុងគម្ពីរ ថា, «អ្នកណា ជឿលើព្រះអង្គ, អ្នកនោះ មុខជា មិនខកចិត្តឡើយ។» ដូច្នេះ សាសន៍យូដា និងសាសន៍ក្រិក
មិនប្លែក ពីគ្នា ត្រង់ណាទេ, គេ ទាំងអស់គ្នា មានព្រះអម្ចាស់
តែមួយ ដែលមាន ព្រះហឫទ័យ ទូលាយ ដល់អស់អ្នក អង្វរ រកព្រះអង្គ។ ដ្បិត «អ្នកណា

ប៉ុន្តែ
មិនមែនមនុស្ស គ្រប់គ្នាទេ ដែលព្រមស្ដាប់ តាមដំណឹងល្អ,
ដូចព្យាការី អេសាយ បានថ្លែងទុកមក ថា៖ «បពិត្រព្រះអម្ចាស់, តើ នរណា ជឿសេចក្ដី ដែលយើង និយាយ ឲ្យស្ដាប់?» ដូច្នេះ,
ជំនឿ កើតមក ពីសេចក្ដី ដែលយើង បានស្ដាប់; រីឯ សេចក្ដី,
ដែលយើង បានស្ដាប់នោះ, កើតមក ពីព្រះបន្ទូល
របស់ព្រះគ្រិស្ដ។ ក៏ប៉ុន្តែ ខ្ញុំសូមសួរ ថា, តើ ពួកគេ មិនដែលបានឮ
ទេឬ? ទេ, ពួកគេ ប្រាកដ ជាបានឮហើយ!
«សំឡេង
របស់គេ បានឮ ខ្ចរខ្ចាយ ពាសពេញ លើផែនដីទាំងមូល, ហើយ
ពាក្យសំដី របស់គេ បានឮ ខ្ចរខ្ចាយ រហូត ដល់ស្រុក ដាច់ស្រយាល នៃពិភពលោក។»
ខ្ញុំ សូមសួរទៀត
ថា,
តើ សាសន៍ អ៊ីស្រាអែល មិនបានយល់ ទេឬ? លោកម៉ូសេ បានថ្លែងមុនគេ ថា៖
«យើង
នឹងធ្វើ ឲ្យអ្នករាល់គ្នា ច្រណែន នឹងពួកអ្នក ដែលមិនមែន ជាប្រជាជាតិមួយ
ដ៏ពិតប្រាកដ; យើង នឹងធ្វើ ឲ្យអ្នករាល់គ្នា មានកំហឹង
នឹងជាតិសាសន៍មួយ ដ៏ល្ងីល្ងើ។»
រីឯ ព្យាការីអេសាយ,
លោក ហ៊ាននិយាយ លើសពីនេះ ទៅទៀត ថា៖
«អស់អ្នក
ដែលមិន ស្វែងរកយើង, គេ បានរកយើងឃើញ;
ហើយ អស់អ្នក ដែលមិនសុំអ្វី
ពីយើង,
យើង បានបង្ហាញខ្លួន

Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3 Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. 4 Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
5 Moses writes this about the righteousness that is by the law:
“The person who does these things will live by them.”[a] 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’”[b] (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 “or ‘Who will descend into the deep?’”[c] (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,”[d] that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: 9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For
it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is
with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”[e] 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”[f]
14 How,
then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can
they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they
hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”[g]
16 But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?”[h] 17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. 18 But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did:
“Their voice has gone out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.”[i]

19 Again I ask: Did Israel not understand? First, Moses says,
“I will make you envious by those who are not a nation;
I will make you angry by a nation that has no understanding.”[j]
I will make you angry by a nation that has no understanding.”[j]
20 And Isaiah boldly says,
“I was found by those who did not seek me;
I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me.”[k]
I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me.”[k]
21 But concerning Israel he says,
“All day long I have held out my hands
to a disobedient and obstinate people.”[l]
