Thai PM urges calm ahead of key court ruling

BANGKOK (AFP) -- Thai Premier Yingluck Shinawatra called for calm Tuesday before a Constitutional Court ruling that could force the dissolution of her party and inflame the country's bitter divisions.

Yingluck insisted she would not step down ahead of the court ruling, the latest challenge to her embattled government which has faced nearly three weeks of rallies sparked by an amnesty bill which could have allowed the return of self-exiled former premier Thaksin Shinawatra.

"I don't want people to be emotional and clash with each other," the Thai leader, who is Thaksin's sister, said Tuesday, urging pro-and anti-government groups to wait for the court's findings.

The court is set to rule Wednesday on whether efforts by Yingluck's government to alter the constitution -- drawn up under the military junta that deposed Thaksin -- are legal.

Yingluck Shinawatra
The proposed changes would make the senate, parliament's upper house, a fully elected body.

A verdict that the ruling party acted unconstitutionally in its push for the change could lead to its dissolution, with leading MPs facing five-year bans from politics.

This would risk fresh conflict in a nation that has been periodically rocked by bloody street rallies since huge protests helped topple Thaksin from power in 2006.

"There is no reason for me to dissolve the house or step down. We can still ensure peace and order. There is a lack of continuity if the government keeps changing," said Yingluck, who does not face a parliamentary ban because she is not listed as a party leader.

Judicial rulings have played an important role in politically turbulent Thailand.

Two pro-Thaksin premiers were forced from office in 2008 by them, making way for the opposition Democrat Party which is backed by the military and Bangkok's elite, to take power in a parliamentary vote.

Thaksin Shinawatra
Demonstrators linked to the opposition have remained on Bangkok's streets for several weeks in rallies against Thaksin and the ruling party, although their numbers have fallen since the amnesty was rejected by the senate on November 11.

The pro-Thaksin "Red Shirts" have also now begun to gather in the capital, vowing to oppose any decision that would remove another government linked to the ousted former premier.

Experts said the constitutional court has a range of options, from allowing the amendment bill to become law, to declaring it unconstitutional and potentially bringing down the government.

Analyst Thitinan Pongsudhirak, of Bangkok's Chulalongkorn University, said the court was likely to go for "something in the middle", preventing the amendment from becoming law as it stands but stopping short of a serious move against the ruling party.

Thai's problem is like the 'copy cat' of KR regime e.g KDP Lon Nol/SR (Thai-yellow shirt) and Pol Pot KR/Hun Sen (Thai-red shirt). These two nations of the Viet and Chinese are working collaboratively to help to destroy their neighbouring countries e,g they did to Laos, Champa, Khmer Krom, koh Tral, Srok Khmer (in the process) and Thai (getting there) by using the same tactic, that is creating a civil war or killing two birds with one stone. Thai people should be more aware of this issue before they too be falling apart like we do.

Both Viet and Chinese will not stop until you stop them. They are very good at lying, deceiving and manipulation, why? they believe that their neighbouring countries are Pro-US and this could affect them in the near future, how? e,g Westerners could use one of those Asian naiton to station their nuclear bombs or other activities that could do harm to them. Both Chinese and Viet have learned alot from world war 1 and 2 e,g from colonisation called the 'proxy war', that is 'bring war to them but don't let them bring war to us.

It is also believed that, in order to be rich you have to creat war e,g through seeing their war related weapons, making them killed one another and then, would owed them in debt plus interests etc. That is why war is part of our lives until these present days. Right now, they (super power nations) are trying to grab each other clients e.g their potential buyers etc. Right now, China and Russia sold their war related weapons to Parkistain, Syria, Lybia, Cambodia etc, while US and EU is selling them to Israel, India and Vietnam etc.

So basically, we are at war created by the super power nation constantly. For Cambodians, we are being used by the Chinese and the Viet to destroy country and nation and then, they will blame on victims who killed victims. Hun Sen, should wake up by now, because soon you and your dynasty will be finished by them crooks too. They did it before and they will do it again and again. Please, we must find way to conform, please just step down and let Sam have ag. If it doesn't work, we will select someone else to the do the job. But first let me or other educated ones be the governor general, I or him/her will decide who should be in the lead for our country and nation. Someone who who is able to work for our national interests only.

First we must understand what the governor general is; it means someone who is able to stand in the middle without bias. Someone who has the power to sack the PM if he/she is over ruled. If the governor general does not do his/her job when things gone wrong, the MP and PM could also sack him/her. e.g he/she has to make sure that armed forces and other secret agent work independently, that is nothing to do with PM. Because armed forces' job is to protect both people and its gov't that is, not to kill innocents but the crooks and the corrupted people. PM has no power to order armed forces to do anything. But both PM and governor general together can make the decision to order the armed forces to response based on national social security purposes.

Cambodia must have an independent prob or else, we will fall into our enemy hands, e,g how VC members are being installed into our system from top to bottom. This has to stop, because Cambodia belongs to Cambodians. So, it is time for change and it has to be now or never. Cambodians have spoken loud and clear, we have already elected our new leaders Sam and Kem because it is obvious after 30 long years in power, whether you are perfect or not, change is needed and it has to be now! the end.

Dear Kmenhwatt,

The word 'Put tum neay' you mentioned has nothing to do with Buddhism or the Buddha. Buddha forbids all followers and disciples from practicing such things. Buddha only teaches Buddhist to master their words, their thoughts and never allow their bodies to harm anyone. This is the teaching of the Buddha. The person who read this so-called prediction named 'Put' He read this so the prediction is his, that's why they called 'Put tum neay' or 'tum neay robos ta put' Not Buddha. Whoever practices such things are not devoted followers. Just a wrong belief...

With Respect,
