My Real Fear

By Chou Leang Hak, USA

Through my mind I see some thing that puts fear in my spirit. A fear that lingers as it materializes what awaits in the future in the Khmer society. I see an inevitable violence that could bring about more bloodshed among this hapless people whose life has just
emerged from literal hell of killing fields.

But why do I see this?

The future of the Khmers awaits the dark horizon that gradually looms over Cambodia like the ominous clouds of an unpredictable windforce that will once again sweep through and cause new and great sorrow in Cambodia.  Silently I am contemplating with fear of what may transpire in the days and months ahead in our homeland.  I know my vision of this is not at all farfetched but the possibility certainly exists.

PM Hun Sen and his party members are committed to hold firm, real firm, the control of all powers in the government of the kingdom.  PM Hun Sen is doing this out of realization that he has done many bad things in his entire life starting from being a killer KR when he was a hot blooded young man in his early twenties during the killing of almost two millions of human lives of his own people in Cambodia. How malicious or how cool he was back in those days or even how many human lives had his own hands actually taken - ranging from none to countless -  God only knows.  And how one may judge the line of his Premiership it is all in the pictures.

What I have read in many articles about this strong man Hun Sen is not beautiful but bad, particularly during his reign that saw his ill activities in his role as the man at the helm in Cambodia.  He was mentioned of having connections with illigal drug businesses that earn him huge sum of bad money,  giving land concessions at will to anyone he's pleased with, but at the same time causing great sorrow in the life of his own people regarding their loss of lands and homes and properties.  Their children were circumstantially forced to abandon their school.  He was also mentioned of turning his blind eye to all sorts of lawlessness that occurred all around the nation and no justice was received by the victims.  Whereas another issue of colossal, corrupt and unpardonable activities that only he knows best what those activities are also was mentioned.

Allowing the Yuon to dwell illegally on the great lake Tonle sap in Cambodia and pollute its fresh waters and yet Hun Sen has no will nor desire to get this nasty problem resolved immediately is another bad thing he knows he has done to his own country.  Perhaps all issues mentioned here are a tip of the iceberg and bigger issues of criminal acts committed by this current Cambodian Royal government, such as forest and territorial issues, which Hun Sen knows all too well have yet to be discovered at the time of the demise of their reign.

And thus there is real fear in their troubled hearts and Hun Sen & CPP members are decisively committed to fight back and to hold on to power to evade any foreseeable trials even if it's obvious that the CPP had lost its leading position in that last election of 2013. Their fear forcefully propels them to rob the CNRP of its election victory using armed forced. According to an article in The Cambodia Daily published on December 3, 2013 the NGO had called the CNRP and informed it of its victory which was 76 out of 123 which meant the CPP had only won 46 seats out of 123.

Military Court Asked to Scrutinize Newspaper Article

Now that there will be great protests in the days ahead by the people led by CNRP to demand the truth of the election result and I have real fear that the Hun Sen government will not hesitate to harm or even kill anyone who tries to pull it down.  The CPP will go extra miles, out of paranoia, to fearfully strengthen its grip on power much like a cornered tiger that will fiercely attack no matter what.  And that's my real fear for the near future that awaits the Khmer fate.  Foreign power may once again get involved in Cambodian affair. Tears of citizens will continue to flow because of bad leaders. God please help us.

HUN SEN SAID, CUT MY HEAD! HUN SEN.

trust me, it takes two to tango. don't think you are always right and hun sen is always wrong. if you think that way, of course, you have real fear. flexibility and dialogue beyond personal superiority is the answer. be humble. think of it as cambodia the big picture, not political party. you don't just fight for power. that was the past when chaos reigns high. nowadays, it is about the rule of law, the good ethical code of conduct, professionalism, and more rule of law. if you cannot except that due to whatever reason you have against hun sen and cambodia, then of course, you see things cynically and pessimistically or negatively. i bet if you tell yourself to see things optimistically, then you don't have anything to fear but fear itself.

fear and paranoia is all in your heard, something you created in your head; it's not tangeable or touchable, it's just a perception. so if you don't want it to overtake you, you must tell yourself to look optimistically. cambodia will always goes for leaders who are capable, stronger, wiser, intelligent, educated and clever and know everything about not only cambodia but the world as well. and leaders cannot let discrimination, bias, prejudice of any sort rule them. if that is the case, then you are ineffective as leaders.

look up the definition of leader in any language and act like one. and stop hating hun sen, etc just because they can do a better job than you can. get real for a change! that's all!

HunSen is KR. People did not elect Hun Sen.

CPP needs to be uprooted from Cambodian politics for Cambodia to be saved, as CPP is an agent of Hanoi to take over Cambodia.

So all Khmers, be prepared to rescue our beloved motherland Cambodia even if blood needs to be shed.

Many thanks to readers who took the time to write back, especially to the friend at 5:26AM.

I'll respond to you point by point.

Now let me start by saying that I do not personally know any of the Khmer leaders except by reading news with pictures and hearing of them from relatives and other Khmers living in Cambodia and abroad. The people may exaggerate and tell lie sometimes but the pictures don't lie unless photoshopped which is rare.

Therefore, I take no sides but to say things according to what have happened and who is responsible. In this case Samdech Hun Sen is the man.

And you, my friend, you know all too well of what is going on in Cambodia for the past three decades. There are positive and negative news about this Premier. The positive ones normally don't concern us as we're pleased.

But the negative ones do - and particularly when they shake our hearts as we witness the modern tribulation in the life of the defenseless Khmer families caused by injustice and human rights violation that seem to have no end to it.

We know that any government of any country has an obligation to serve its people but not to torment any of them arrogantly without concern. This is what's happening in the Khmer society whose country's landmass is shrinking.

My fear for the well being and safety of my people is real and logical. From what you wrote you have no vision of what may happen to them in the days ahead as they're prepared to protest and demand justice for their life. Neither are you concerned of their safety. But of course that's you.

For me, my wish is that Cambodia would have leaders who care and concern of the well being of their constituents 24/7 as well as the territorial integrity.

Hope you understand my points. Thanks again, dear friend. As Khmers we've been overwhelmed with sorrow, great sorrow, in our hapless life. Need we have more hellish life? And would you like to go through one? Of course you don't.

Dear Chou Leang Hak,

I like your article that is describing most of the bad things that Mr. Hun Sen has done. But the thing that I don't like is your pessimism of having real fear in the future and that's what Mr. Hun Sen is having in his mind "If he wants to control someone or some group of people, all he has to do is to make them fear".
I don’t think we shouldn't have any fear for the upcoming CNRP protests because this day of age, we need to fight the injustice with our wisdom, with the proper rules of law, with the technology (social media and video equipment) and with our discipline. We know that we may get some casualties in the process of a regime change, but I believe that:
1-It is better to die satisfying than to live each moment in fear.
2-Do not let our fears choose our destiny in life.
3-Keep our fears in ourselves, but share our courage with others.
4-Fear is a dark room where negative ideas develop.
I'm not criticizing you I'm just voicing my opinion. If you are offended by my comment, I sincerely apologize.
Take care and have a good holiday.

Look at Hun Sen's wife sooo serious. Does she ever have the blood on her hand ?

Of the rules of laws in Cambodia the CPP uses them like war horses to their advantage. In example have you heard of the two cases of Chhouk Bondith and Yoam Bopha, among many other cases that got no justice? And what is your thought on these two cases?

Modern nations whose all citizens in (all) levels abide and respect the laws have very few or even zero unnecessary chaos. And they live and walk with honor. In Cambodia people only have hope and dreams of having decent life and they long to see big change of the governance in their society. That's the sole reason they put aside their work and go to vote for that big change.

But according to several news sources the will of the Khmer people was robbed and manipulated as the result of the election was said to be cheated. Where is the rules of laws in all this?

To look at things and to give opinion it is imperative that we be fair minded and look at (all) corners of things so that we'll say things as they are. No need to take side because we all are Khmers.

Hun and CPP are VC and if China wants Cambodia to clean up their act, just look into Vietnam. Viet and China have made certain agreement to allow Viets to do whatever they wanted to Cambodia, in order for them both to share its wealth. Therefore, Chinese needs to stop playinng around as if you don't like Hun Sen attitude e.g who is Hun Sen? wasn't he being installed by the VC and CH? just look around, when Hun in trouble who provided him with atileries e.g guns and bullets and who provided with such armed from forces? every elections, both Viets and China are the ones who is helping in the killing of poor innocent khmers e.g during the Funcipic, hundreds of their members been killed in cold blood just because they are in the wrong side of their group and in 1997 granate attack...the list of killing our educaton ones goes on and on from 1975 to these present days. So, if the Chinese really want to find out why ah Hun Sen acts the way he is because of the VC, e.g Hun once said ' the truth is I am a VC's puppet and nobody wants to lose their land or sea but because we are under their controlled'.

Therefore, if the Chinese have a genuine heart wanting to help Cambodia, Chinese must demand Viets to leave Cambodia politic as well as leave all of our possessions (territory and Koh Tral) alone. China must point finger and pull the Viets out of Cambodia and tell them, that they are the one who is killing khmers and enough of their bushshit, that is stop using khmers to kill khmers. That they must leave Cambodia ASAP, that is Hun and his dyansty must go back to VN, stop pretending to khmers continuing to kill khmers.

China has the power and still have time to do the right thing or else. They too be clasify as the khmers killers also e.g where do those artileries come from eg guns bullets and tanks etc. May god save our souls really.

Dear friend @ 8:07AM

My comment at 8:38AM was a response to 5:26AM. Of your comment @ 8:07AM I was coming back to give you my feedback. I am glad that you write and join our discourse. I like all your 4 points of opinion. But the last 2 I'd like to clarify that my real fear here is (not) a lack of courage nor a show to give more strength to the other side.

Rather it is my deep-deep concern that I call it a real fear because I know exactly the degree of sorrow and suffering any of our poor people would go through when their loved one(s) were injured or killed violently. And the move they're making now is toward the unknown and unpredictable.

The violence had transpired in recent week when a woman was shot and killed and many others severely injured. And now again I fear for them. But of course it's a grand and imperative move they must make to heal their troubled hearts. I wish them well. And I wish Samdech Hun Sen realize the great suffering the Khmers have gone through. It must stop. It must not happen again if Samdech is to avoid being called a wicked man of Cambodia.

Thanks again dear friend. Happy holidays to you and yours.

Chou Leang Hak,

People born and die.
If they died to defend their Country, that would be the right way to die.

If you are happy to live and eat and die, you must keep your idea to yourself.

Khmer people did not create violence in Cambodia.

The large part of the violence in Cambodia was stemming from Vietnam's execution of its ambition to annex Cambodia.

Thanks to the friend @10:22PM for joining our conversation.

It is likely that you read not the whole article I wrote but the title and a few lines after. It's important that you read through it all phrase by phrase 'til the end of the text and then make some comments based on all points written in this text.

In this case no one is in a battle to fight & defend the country and to die for that cause. It's a political quarrel between two political factions from the same family - the Khmer family. We remember that from the past quarrels there have been some violence that injured or killed some members of our family - the Khmer family.

And I fear, even I'm thousands of miles away, that it may happen again and that will again place so much sorrow in my spirit. This fear of mine you misinterpret it because you do not see the line of my intention.

My intention is to remind those who'd cause the tragedy among (our family members) to refrain from being mean spirited and to understand our desire to live with dignity and prosperity. Or the Khmer society as a whole will never see the light of happiness and true prosperity. We want a government who cares about our well being and recognizes our God given liberty to exercise our rights with human dignity and without any threat anywhere at any time.

So, my fear here, which does not mean I have a chicken spirit but a caring one, is to tell those protesters that I am with them mentally in thought and prayers with deep concern of their safety. We are all from the same family - the Khmer family.

Thanks again for your feedback.

Hanoi is the Root Causes for Khmers Sufferings.
All Khmers have to take Action(s) to Eliminate those Root Causes committed by Hanoi's leaders against

Thanks to Sithan for your feedback.

The Yuon is bad but the current Khmer leaders are trapped in a world of cowardice and ignorance. They could not find a way out nor will they be determined to set a strong goal in their agenda to free themselves from that world to serve Cambodia interest.

The Paris Peace Agreement on October 23 1991 gave the Khmers a fine opportunity to nullify all treaties made between Hanoi and Hun Sen, the treaties that greatly benefit the Yuon. But the Khmer Royal Government as a whole, (or just Hun Sen?), had rejected it and rather until this day the Khmer current leaders choose to carry that burden of national betrayal. I could not understand their state of mentality. It is quite unnatural.

To fight with Hanoi and to nullify all manipulated treaties the Khmers first of all must deal with the current leaders. They are the main rocks in the way. Until then we're now fighting among ourselves and the foolishness gives off its rotten smell from CPP.

Thanks again for getting involved in our cause to bring about big change to Cambodia. We must courageously continue to shine lights where the problems are if we want to succeed and reach our goal. We dare to say things that are true and to say it out loud.

Dear Chou Leang Hak,

Why talk about 'fear'. Fear paralyses people rendering them useless unable to do anything!

Now is the time to DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TO GET OUR COUNTRY FROM THE CLUTCH Of A DICTATOR!

To do everything we can, needs bravery! So talk about bravery and DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN, according to international law and assert our rights as Hunan beings! Why live with fear and allow people to behave like animals in our society!!!

WAKE UP KHMER AND BE BRAVE - SHOW ALL YOUR BRAVE HEARTS!!!

Dear friend @7:07PM

I admire your thought and encouragement. My sincere hope is that this article of mine, My Real Fear, will be read by high CPP members as well and therefore bad occurrence may be diverted as it enters their mind and materializes the scenes of suffering in Khmers' life and understand their great sorrow.

Of course, I know it's a fact that mean spirited persons don't have much of a human instinct and they'd attack like wild beasts just because they know they have upper hand. But still they can be controlled by their superiors whose role can be held accountable and be prosecuted in the day of the demise of their regime.

My real fear here does not suggest cowardice to any of our hearts while we're doing every thing we can to get rid of the dictatorship in the Khmer society once and for all. It must go. The fear I have at this time is rather my profound concern of the safety of the Khmer people as they're marching forward and facing the mean spirited armed men. The violence can be spiral out of control and great sorrow can occur on both sides... some thing that we don't want to see.

If the leaders of CPP read this they should know there is a bold call for the Khmer's man-made sorrow to stop and never again take place if they don't want to see foreign involvement in the Khmer affair.

There shall be (no) new violence in the days ahead as people are calling for verification of the actual result of the recent election. Cambodia is (not) a property of these corrupt men and women who run it for so long until this day as they're getting more corrupt moment by moment. But Cambodia belongs to all Khmers.

Thanks again, dear friend, for your feedback. We must continue to write and express our thought if we want to succeed and bring about the drastic change to the Khmer society. God bless.
