A disturbing report direct from Kampuchea-Krom have revealed that a body of a Khmer Krom man was found near the Kot La Miet temple in Tra Puong (Luong Phi) village, Swai Ton (Tri Ton) district on March 19, 2008.

The victim was identified as Mr. Chau Pholly, aged 28 years old from in Ta Peang Trao (An Ninh) commune, Toul Ta Meng (An Tuc) village, Swai Ton (Tri Ton) district.

He was last seen on March 16, 2008 while attending the inauguration ceremony of the Kot La Miet temple.

His family tried to search for him but he disappeared. It was three days later that his body was found near the Kot La Miet temple.

According to the people who attended the inauguration ceremony, there was no fighting during the ceremony. Thus it is likely that death was related to something else.

Apparently, Mr. Polly had nothing valuable on him so it is unlikely that he was robbed.

The local Khmer Krom people and Mr. Polly’s family believes that Mr. Polly was a target of an assassination.

Apparently, Mr. Polly was a Vietnamese soldier and could read and write Khmer and Vietnamese frequently. In recent days, Mr. Polly has expressed his strong displeasure against Vietnamese authorities in regards to the land confiscation issues of the Khmer Krom people.

He had apparently helped to write the appeals on behalf of the Khmer Krom people to demand their lands back.

Mr. Polly’s family fears that it was his willingness to help with the above that sealed his fate.

The mysterious death of Mr. Polly has rocked the local Khmer Krom people, generating fear and a sense of injustice compounded by Vietnamese authorities’ inability to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
