Preab Tan, Preah Vihear CPP governor, dead

After 10 days of hospital stay, Preab Tan, the [CPP] governor of Preah Vihear province, died on Saturday 18 July, he was 57. His funeral will be held in the evening of Monday 20 July, at Wat Langka pagoda.

Ill since 08 July, during his meeting with newly elected provincial councilors, Preab Tan was sent to emergency in Vietnam the following day. However, doctors there could not save him

His funeral will take place with the presence of Sar Kheng, the vice-PM and minister of Interior.

Preab Tan, a prominent CPP figure, sharply criticized Thailand’s invasion of the area surrounding the Preah Vihear temple.

He left behind six orphan children as his wife also died last February.

Preab Tan, the provincial governor of Preah Vihear, was sent for emergency medical care in Vietnam on 09 July after he became ill at 8PM on 08 July during his meeting with provincial councilors. According to Vietnamese doctors, a vein in Preab Tan’s heart ruptured causing blood to clot. A source from Vietnam indicated that expert doctors are working hard to save his life. The Koh Santepheap newspaper quoted a source as saying that, at 4PM on 10 July, Preab Tan’s family was preparing to repatriate him back to Cambodia. Preab Tan is a high ranking CPP official, he (allegedly) fought to liberate the people from the Pol Pot regime. He has 5 sons and one adopted daughter. He is 58-year-old and his wife, Chhay Phally, died on 05 February from disease.
