A meeting took place on Wednesday 04 June between representatives of the ministry of Economy, and local representatives of the gasoline distribution companies: Caltex, Total, Tela and Sokimex. The reason for the meeting was the price increase of gasoline and goods. “The goal of this meeting was to round up the exact reasons behind the inflation. We must know if the price increase is conducted properly or not,” Chea Peng Cheang, state secretary at the ministry of Economy, declared. The rate of inflation climbed up to 18.7% in January 2008. Since the beginning of the year, the price of goods kept on increasing, in particular the price of foods. Faced with this inflation, the government claimed that it took measures, but for now, the results are few and far in between.
