Dear Friends in the Dharma, Brothers and Sisters,
It is with profound gratitude and deep sadness that we send you this invitation to the National Lying-In-State Ceremonies to honor the life and work of the Most Venerable Samdech Preah Maha Ghosananda to be held on Saturday, April 7 and Sunday, April 8, 2007 at the Triratanaram Temple, North Chelmsford, Massachusetts.
Often referred to as the Gandhi of Cambodia Samdech Maha Ghosananda came to the United States in the early 80’s and dedicated his life to helping the new Cambodian refugee population reclaim their lives and culture through his ministry of love, compassion, forgiveness and reconciliation. As the refugee communities in this country became more established, Samdech Maha Ghosananda turned his global ministries to working for peace in Cambodia and the whole world. Several times a Nobel Peace Prize Nominee, since 1991, Samdech Maha Ghosananda had led a series of Dhamma Yatra (Peace Walk) in Cambodia, often through troubled areas in order to bring about lasting peace and reconciliation.
While the schedule indicates a weekend full of services and memorial, we would like to ask you, Friends in the Dharma, Brothers and Sisters, to attend the services at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 7 or at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 8, 2007. This is a special time as we begin the closure of our three week remembrance. Your presence with us would be a very high honor for Samdech Preah Maha Ghosananda and all his gathered admirers and followers of his distinguished exemplary teaching.
Bowing deeply for a peaceful world,
Ven. Natha-Pandito Rithipol
Secretary General
