Radio Free AsiaTranslated from Khmer by SocheataThach Vien, the President of the Khmer Kampuchea-Krom Federation (KKF) in Europe and Vice-President of the KKF in the world, said today that he and a number of Khmer associations are uniting their forces to organize an overseas mass demonstration in France to protest against the Vietnamese authority. The demonstration is planned for 22 April.
Mr. Thach Vien said that the planned mass demonstration to protest against the Vietnamese for its oppression on Khmer Krom monks and Khmer Krom people. The demonstration will be participated by Khmer Krom people from several cities.
Thach Vien said: “I cannot tell you the exact number, but for the city of Lyon (France) which is located 500 kilometers from Paris, there will be at least 50-60 people participating. In Paris, our brothers and sisters from various associations have agreed to hold the demonstration, however, I cannot tell you the exact number yet.”
The mass demonstration of Cambodian People and representatives of Khmer Krom associations will be held at the Trocadero Esplanade, Paris, to protest against the Vietnamese authority which violated the freedom rights and the religious freedom of Khmer Krom monks, as well as those of Khmer Krom people in Preah Trapeang and Khleang province (Tra Vinh and Soc Trang in Vietnamese), and they have defrocked several Khmer Krom monks by force.
Thach Vien said that the demonstration will consist of displaying banners and slogans as well as calling on the international community to apply pressure on the Vietnamese government, there will be no march held.
Thach Vien said: “We have prepared banners regarding the oppressions of Khmer Krom monks perpetrated by the Vietnamese authority, and we will call on the International community to pressure the Vietnamese government so they respect the rights and the religious freedom of Khmer Krom people. We are organizing the demonstration in such a way as to issue our calls to other communities. There will be no march, we will organize the demonstration at the Trocadero Esplanade, this is the usual place we hold our demonstrations.”
