A police raid at guest houses in the temple city led to the arrest of several traffickers and the release of some minor young girls.
Nine young girls were freed on Thursday 20 September, during a police raid in 2 guest houses: the “Chhbar Ampov 1”and the “Chhbar Ampov 2,” located in Svay Dangkum commune, Siem Reap city. The police acted on tips provided the provincial minor protection department. Three people, suspected of detaining the minor girls for prostitution purpose, were arrested. They are also in charge of these guest houses. In front of the police, the suspects declared that these girls are household servants. However, the police retrieved condoms in all the 32 rooms in the guest houses during their search. After the confrontation with the police, the rescued young girls found refuge at the department of Women affairs. Chea Heng, the chief of the minor protection department, hopes that a quick sentencing will be given by the court in this case.
