The CPP scoreboard boasts a new recruit on Tuesday 07 October with the addition of Keo Remy, the director of the HRP disciplinary committee.

This morning, the defector provided a 3-point arguments to explain his sharp u-turn.

To Keo Remy, “the CPP leaders and Hun Sen in particular, are strong both politically and psychologically.” He also indicated “that powerful countries support the CPP and the government,” before concluding that “Cambodians gave 90 seats to the CPP, this is abnormal, consequently, this means that the people no longer support the existence of opposition parties.”

Right there, Keo Remy made a good deal by obtaining a position of advisor to the government which is equivalent to the title of a minister. He also brought along with him two other important HRP activists: the party treasurer and his deputy.

During his career, Keo remy swept through all political spectrum, from one end to the other by being one after another: Funcinpec elected MP in 1998, then he switched to the SRP while maintaining his seat at the National Assembly in 2003. He then joined the HRP in 2007. Finally, unable to win a seat during the July general election, he has now joined Hun Sen’s ruling party.

If I can't win over the CPP, might as well join them: Politician-prostitute Keo Remy

Senior opposition party leader defects to Cambodia's major ruling party

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Keo Remy, vice president of Cambodia's second largest opposition party, here Tuesday defected to major ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP).

"I decide to join CPP after I have opposed it for over 20 years," said the 45-year-old former leader of the Human Right Party (HRP). "We have opposed CPP for our whole lives, but we will not win CPP."

"We can see that through the general election on July 27. CPP won 90 of the 123 seats at the National Assembly. More (and more) people support CPP and I follow the decision of people," he added.

During the election, HRP won three seats, but Remy failed to secure a seat as candidate for the Phnom Penh electoral constituency.

Remy once served the co-ruling Funcinpec Party and the major opposition Sam Rainsy Party and later joined his friends to establish HRP.
