Commenting on KI-Media

Dear KI-Media Member,

As one of the regular KI-Media viewer, I can say KI are the best blog which compile all the best news about Cambodia. Here are just Feedback…: Can you make a rule for comment?

For example the comment must be fair, polite, not abusive or offensive...etc…
It is kind of suck to see a lot of non-sense comment…
To me it is kind of waste time to read comment like that...
So please...
I do not even want to make any comment even I view KI for more than a years everyday. I hope there will be a change, and KI-media admin are the one that should have right to delete or allow comment to be posted by all comments directly send to him before hand.

You have indeed pointed out one sticky issue that we, at KI-Media, have faced for the past several years. When we first started, some of our own team members strongly objected, like you do, when they read some of the rather “explicit” comments posted. Other of our team members pointedly mentioned that, in Cambodia, our compatriots do not have the freedom to express their opinion freely, why should we adopt the same attitude?

We have to point out also that, because of financial constraint, we can only afford to use a free blog system like “Blogspot.” In doing so, we are somewhat limited in our options, for example:

1. we can moderate the comments, this option requires a lot of time from our team members who must also earn their personal living, have to go to school etc…;
2. we can decide to prevent all commenting; or
3. we allow non moderated commenting, then we lose the option to moderate them afterward.

Because of these restrictions, we decided to set up a survey among our readers, and the majority of the readers decided that we should allow all readers to freely post their comments without any moderation. We went along with the majority decision, however, we did ask and we still insist that our readers avoid using abusive and offensive words as the comments are not moderated.
