One Cambodian opposition MP condemned the action taken by the Svay Rieng police and the Vietnamese police which entered Cambodia to arrest a Khmer Krom man.
SRP MP Yun Tharo, who is Khmer Krom native, issued a statement on Monday, condemning the action taken by Svay Rieng police officers and the Vietnamese police which came inside Cambodia to arrest Srey Sothy, an employee of Friends of the Khmer Kampuchea-Krom Association in Svay Rieng, regarding 3 books (a Cambodian history textbook, a copy of the bulletin of Khmer Kampuchea Krom Women and a copy of Khmer Krom legend) that a relative of Mr. Srey Sothy took to Vietnam. The Vietnamese authority conducted a search on Mr. Srey Sothy’s relative and found these books.
Yun Tharo said that he strongly regrets seeing the violation perpetrated by Cambodian police in cooperation with armed Vietnamese police which came in to Cambodia to conduct a search in Mr. Srey Sothy’s home, and they even took unauthorized photos of Mr. Srey Sothy’s wife and children at their home in Koh Russey village, Chantrea district, Svay Rieng province, last Thursday.
Yun Tharo called for an immediate end to the persecution and the arrest attempt against Srey Sothy who is currently in hiding from this arrest attempt.
