A panic took place Wednesday when several phones received an email message stating: “Tell others not to eat beef because there are more than 100 cattle dead in Sisophon [Banteay Meanchey province]. Please send this message to all those you know. Thank you.” The information was denied by officials from the Ministry of Agriculture who said that this rumor is not well founded. However, the Rasmei Kampuchea newspaper published an article which claims that according to a reliable source from Banteay Meanchey province, there are more 300 cattle which died of disease, and that this number keeps on increasing in Anlong Veng district. Nobody knows the source of the email warning about eating beef meat, and no one know the reason why this rumor is broadcasted.
