Slightly prior to the 2009 council election, Suth Dina (aka Mao Moeung Yat), secretary-general of the Norodom Ranariddh party, appealed to all commune councilors to cast their vote for the ruling CPP party instead. In his appeal, Suth Dina indicated that it is not necessary to vote for Funcinpec or the NRP since both are mere tools of the CPP, The Cambodia Daily reported in its 15 May edition. With this appeal, Suth Dina appears to cast his lot with the CPP, his former political party, just like what Sun Sokun Mealea did earlier. Suth Dina led a colorful political life when he started as president and founder of the ultra-nationalist and anti-CPP Khmer front Party. He later joined another colorful politician, Prince Sisowath Thomico to form the short-lived Sangkum Jatiniyum Front Party. He finally hooked up with another controversial politician: Prince Norodom Ranariddh before finally submitting himself to the CPP, his former political party.
