PM Hun Xen praised General Pol Saroeun, the RCAF chief of staff, for tearing up the map unilateral drawn by Thailand in the past. During a speech given at the inauguration of the new building for the ministry of Tourism on Monday, Hun Xen said that he personally praised General Pol Saroeun who took the map unilaterally drawn up by Thailand and tore it down at the negotiation table. Hun Xen said: “I praised him, let him tear up any map that is not internationally recognized. If the Thai PM put this map in front of me, I will tear it down in front of the Thai PM also.” Hun Xen indicated that he does not allow any Cambodian official to negotiate based in Thailand’s unilateral map, and he said that any negotiation should be based on maps left over from France.

KI-Media Note: It's good to hear that Hun Xen accepts to use the internationally-recognized border map with Thailand as the basis of border negotiation with Thailand, however, it would have been even better if he would also do the same with the border with Vietnam. In fact, Hanoi and the Vietcong provisional government recognized Cambodia's border prior to 1970.
