Vietnamese, Cambodian navies boost ties

Vietnamese and Cambodian naval forces will cooperate closely in all fields of mutual concern to promote the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries’ people.

This was affirmed at a meeting of the Vietnam Naval High Command’s delegation led by Colonel Pham Van Hoanh, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy with the Royal Cambodian Navy led by Rear Admiral Mien Va on August 10, in the framework of the delegation’s working visit to Cambodia from August 9-13.

Speaking at the meeting, Hoanh spoke highly of the Royal Cambodian Navy’s coordination with the naval zone 5 of Vietnam in maintaining security and order in historical territorial waters between the two countries and promptly addressing sea-related issues to contribute to preserving regional peace and stability.

The two Vietnamese naval ships HQ375 and HQ376 docked at a port in Sihanouk city, Preah Sihanouk province, Cambodia to begin an official friendship visit on September 3-6.

This first visit by the Vietnam People’s Navy aims to strengthen the traditional friendship between the two countries.

Vietnam’s delegation met with leaders of Preah Sihanouk province and the two sides agreed that the event marked a new phase in the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship.

Later, the ships reached Phnom Penh to meet with the Cambodian Minister of National Defense and visited Ream navy base to take part in friendship sports events.

The E naval region of the Vietnamese Navy and the Ream naval base of the Royal Cambodian Navy have completed three joint patrols in the waters and sea borders of the Gulf of Thailand.

During the patrols, both sides strictly abided by joint-patrol regulations, contributing to ensuring public order and security in the historic, bordering seas and creating advantageous conditions for people from the two countries to share in one another’s cultures and economies and to go fishing in the region.

So far, the E naval region and the Ream naval base have utlised their communication channels to exchange information and jointly address any issues that may arise.

The two sides also cooperated in sea rescue training, cultural exchanges, and sports with the aim of strengthening solidarity, as well as the mutual confidence, understanding and respect.

The two navies are in a state of readiness to carry out further joint patrols in the future.
