Cambodia and Vietnam promote cooperation in tourism
VietNamNet Bridge - Cambodia and Vietnam are developing a project to open a tourism route in the costal area connecting the two countries under the cooperation framework between Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand on the opening of a sea route, said the Cambodia Ministry of Tourism.
According to the Cambodia Ministry of Tourism, investors have decided to build up the infrastructure and services in Kep City to serve the tourism route, with a total capital amounting to 3.7 million USD. As scheduled, tourists will travel on Canot ship from Kep City (Cambodia) to Ha Tien (Vietnam) and vice versa.
Furthermore, to attract tourists, the Cambodia Government has decided to upgrade the international airport in Xihanuc City, with the aim of operating a flight to Xiem Riep.
The number of tourists to Cambodia is on the rise, with nearly 2 million travelers in 2006. With the opening of the tourism route, Cambodia is expected to greet more tourists, especially those coming from Vietnam.
Along with the garments industry, tourism will become one of the spearhead industries of the country.
