Cheng Lim Sreang, Funcinpec's deputy governor of Siem Reap province, said Wednesday that he wrote to Prime Minister Hun Sen on Monday asking to defect to the CPP, and that his request has been accepted. He claimed he was leaving the embattled royalist party because it had appointed incompetent officials in a corrupt manner, and is badly managed. "I entered Funcinpec because I thought Funcinpec would have the right management but in reality, the appointments are incompetent and corrupt," he said. "This doesn’t serve the public." He said he had been with Funcinpec since 1992 and had been deputy governor of the province since 2000. "There are many more civil servants who want to defect because the CPP has clear management," he said. "Funcinpec is anarchic and disorderly." Government spokesman and Information Minister Khieu Kanharith said he was unaware of the defection and that the CPP would welcome the entire royalist party if it were to defect. Funcinpec Secretary-General Nhiek Bun Chhay said he was too busy to comment.
