The former king of Cambodia threatened to sue newspapers that defame or criticize him, according to a statement on his official website.
"From now on, please let me know if any newspapers ... defame or accuse me of something so that I can correct, respond, or file lawsuits in Cambodia's courts," ex-monarch Norodom Sihanouk said in a letter to the Royal Palace, which appeared on his website.
The cancer-stricken Sihanouk, who left for Beijing in August to undergo medical treatment, is now staying in Pyongyang where Cambodia's current king, Norodom Sihamoni, is visiting him.
Last month Sihanouk, who claimed political tensions made it unsafe for him to return home, said he would come back to the country in May.
Sihanouk abdicated the throne in October 2004 to his son Sihamoni, citing old age and health problems. The former king is also a sharp critic of a controversial border agreement that Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen signed in Hanoi with his Vietnamese counterpart in October.
Despite abdicating, Sihanouk remains a powerful figure in Cambodia and frequently wades into the political fray with sometimes-blistering communiques.
The Cambodian government voted Friday to abolish the country's controversial criminal defamation law, making the offense a civil one instead.

Sihanouk can sue others. Can people sue him for his criminal behavior as well? Why is he immune from prosecution when others can go to jail for the similar criminal behavior?
If bravery you should firstly sue Prime Minister Hun Sen because he firstly defamed you on TVK for several weeks ago. So that Cambodian people have known your bad deed towards them and towards Cambodia country.
Maybe you are afraid of Prime Minister Hun Sen so you don’t dare threaten him.
King Father! Let Cambodian people to live peacefully.
Don't make Cambodian situation trouble to respond your interest as you have done since a long time. Hope that.
Kasekor Khmer
What Lawsuit is he going to do? The facts are there. he made planty of movies and they are real too, Even I have proof it it. Everybody knows that he was a big shot movie stars wona be during the 60's and 70's. I think he was jeolous of Kong Som Earn and Jear Taun, that was why he star in thos movies back then to compete with those real movie start. Plus he want to show us he has multiple talents beside just being a King. As you and I know. This King want to be everyting in this time. Even involved in Politic and he sure did make history, not for the good, but for the worst. Maybe now he feels embarassed now of being exposed of his pass as an actor/producer, that why he denied any part of it. Can't teach an old dog a new trick. Look what has happened to Cambodia, because of him. Now what is left is Cambodia still run by Former Khmer Rouge..under a direction of Vietnam and China..The old King is running from one country to another.. from Cambodia, to join hand with Pol Pot and then China and now with North Korea...(axis of evil) ohhh man....I'm so ashame.
If he still denies about being in movies, I can shove in his face. Cause I have a copy of this shorty acting in this old stupid movies.
That som dey srey king.. He need to go, I'm glad Hun Sen is in charge.
I am sick and tired of this old, cruel man who could not keep his mouth shut. I wonder why the Chinese still let him alive. I hope he will end up like his comrade(Pol Pot)who became useless and died like a dog(nobody knew how he died of and had no autopsy done and creamated with car tires. This old man should worry about that instead, but continued to bark. We don't need you and I hope this old man will not return to cambodia as he planned because It will be wasted the money that the donor gave to cambodia to help the poor. He also should tell his son(krom pras) who is still in france to get back his old job at the university, because there in no job for him in cambodia, sic.
You(king)should try to live somewhere that the chinese has no access to north korea is not safehaven for you, otherwise you will end up like Pol Pot? I hope you take my advice old, dirty and god damn man.
God damn the old king. He's no king, he's an asshold.
I'm so agreed with everyone in the above comments. I'm gald all younger generation are able to see what was wrong with Cambodia and who was responsible that lead Khmer to these days.
