Phnom Penh - A Cambodian couple who mummified their dead premature baby to keep at home as a lucky charm had broken no laws and were merely adhering to ancient superstitions, according to police.
Yem Polil, 39, and his wife Lour Lin, 38, featured on the front page of a local Khmer-language newspaper, photographed with the mummified corpse of their unnamed son, whom they smoked to preserve after he died within minutes of being born.
"This is their choice. It is their body," the police chief of Santouk district in central Kampong Thom province, Math Maly, said on Wednesday.
He said Polil, a former soldier, had dreamt that a mummified baby monkey he had previously been given as a magic charm to protect him in battle and subsequently lost wanted to return to him, and within months discovered that his wife was pregnant.
When Lin miscarried seven months into the pregnancy, the couple took it as an omen and preserved the child's body.
Cambodians believe that the mummified bodies of children and some primates born prematurely have strong magical powers and can predict everything from impending disaster to the best time to sow and harvest crops. - Sapa-dpa

a couple must be uneducated. they believe this act is good for them. Even Hun Sen entourages has this kind of thing in their houses to protect them from overthrown into the river. Wake up this couple, this is 21st century. Don't live in the first century. Nonething will protect you from bad happening. Even HS has a bunker or the evil protectors in his bunker, there'are smart bombs, cluster bombs, patriot missile, bunker bombs, and HS bomb that works very accurate from far distance. So don't count over your luck. Time is coming and running out for HS entourage.
Hun Sen love that! the monks in Cambodia are not alow to preach, they alow to only do wodoo thing.
